Help - Sunroof

Hi all, I need a bit of help with my sunroof.

Something is loose or worn in the mechanism and it's rattling like a tin of bolts. I want to fix it before it drives me crazy (too late some might say [8D] ).

Does anyone know if there's a likely culprit? I'm not too good with taking out headlinings [] so I'm hoping that I can fix it without having to take it apart.

Is the sunroof on the '44 the same? Is it worth me asking on Titanic as well?

Thanks

Chris

Yes, and yes.

However the likely cause is the little gears that raise & lower the roof. The originals are plastic and do wear/rattle loose.

There is a good technical article ---> here <---

Mark is correct, it will be the two little nylon gear wheels, which are designed as "sacrificial" parts, ie they are deliberately designed to break, and thereby save the rest of the mechanism if something sticks.

The good news is ... they are dead cheap. Even from your OPC they will cost about £5 for two.

The bad news is ... fitting them is a major pain in the butt! (I speak from experience!)

The Clark's garage reference that Mark gives is invaluable. Follow it to the letter and you will fix it, but you will come out like a circus contortionist!

Thanks Guys that's really helpful.

John, you sound like you've done this before, I don't suppose you've got the part number(s) to hand?

Chris

The part number is referenced in the article -

Plastic Sunroof Gear (Feb. 1986 - 1991) Part Number 944-564-430-01

Good luck - let us know how it goes!
