Help! Tyres are hitting the arches

I recently fitted a set of 18" RS split rims, with SO2s 265 at the rear, under hard cornering or going gently over a speed bump, the rear tyres hit the wheelarches!

The nice boys at Camtune have sorted the 4 wheel alignment and dialed in 1.5 degrees
negative camber, they say the only option is to "roll" the arches, what do you guys think?

It's a 1994 C2 by the way

Hi Chris,
I have had first hand experience of this when I bought a set of 18 inch split rims and had them fitted to my narrow body 993. The end result looked ridicoulous and I had trouble getting Design 911 to admit that the wheels were not suitable. The rear wheels were slightly sticking out of the arches and I had the same problems as you are experiencing now. Rolling the arches is NOT the answer. The wheels are not suitable..simple as that.

Since then, I have part exchanged the wheels and bought original Porsche Sport Design wheels which fit perfectly and don't stick out at the rear. I then had the car lowered by 30 mm at JZ Machtech and the car looks lovely and aggresive.

As Maurice says, make sure you fit the steering rack brace too.

Good luck

Maurice is spot on with how crucial the ET is on a narrow bodied car, rolling the arches can certainly help.

The wheels may be heavy, but they are very strong, it depends if you are going to use your car on track or just cruise the one way system to the pub and talk components. [:)]
