Help us plan our trip to Scotland

Hi all,

Looks like we may have the use of my parents in Newcastle as childminders over the end of term week (w/c 9th April).

Thought me and the missus might spend some time in Scotland. Has been a long time since I was last there (bar a flying trip to gordon's) having been down in the Midlands 10yrs+ now and not sure my missus has ever been.

We will probably travel up from Newcastle by car on the Monday (probably won't be the porker unless my mother lets me take her boxster S...) and spend 3 or 4 nights.

So...looking for inspiration on where to go and what to do and where to stay etc etc etc. Looking for a relaxing time and taking in some of the sights, not necessarily a city break - quite happy to take in some fresh air.

SO WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND TO THE SADDO ENGLISH TOURIST LOOKING FOR SOME SCOTTISH INSPIRATION?

PS We're not millionaires so budget will be a factor...

Not quite the Highlands but Dumfries and Galloway area is a beautiful area.
Castle Douglas, Newton Stewart, New Galloway
I can recommend the Lochinvar Hotel in St. Johns Town of Dalry on the A713 just north of Loch Ken. Cheap and cheerful.
Cheers,

Knockhill?? Which car u taking then???[;)]

The A74........or the Perth > Aberdeen road via Ballater.....

If u r going up from Newcastle, don't forget the Northumberland coast -Alnwick, Lindisfarne, Craister ........doubt you'll make it to Scotland!![:D]

Maybe Gordon will put you up for a couple of nights in sunny Law and take you on a tour of the highlights of Lanarkshire [:D] on the other hand better to head up the West coast look at the tour the Boxster guys are doing in May , best roads in the country and plenty of B&B no need to book into hotels

Hi Jason,

Take a look in the Boxster forum for ideas. We are doing this route in May. Link here> http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=247721&mpage=3&key=

You can book your B&B acommodation quite easily using the www as your guide and use this route. The roads are fantastic once you get past Glasgow and the the scenery just gets better and better. You don't need to go all the way up to Durness - and that may be just to far for you on your first visit to the area. Ullapool may be far enough north for you but I can guarantee that you will enjoy it in your Porsche. This is what it was made for!

Enjoy your holiday without the kids![:)]

If you need more info just email me and I will try and help out.

Head North and visit Durness it is a must try www.visitmackays.com and whilst there visit Smoo cave and avisit to Cape Wrath few miles down from there a stunning area

Have a night at the Golf View in Nairn, great views, great food and so peaceful. On the way up stop at Newburgh, about 12 miles north of Aberdeen, go to The Udny Arms for "Sticky Toffee Pudding" it is where it originated and it is to die for!! Go on 12 miles to Cruden Bay, visit Slains Castle, where the Dracula stories were written, to get there you have to park the car and you walk past the Bullers of Buchan, huge rocks and caves, waves clattering off them its just great. From there go on to Pennan, the place that Local Hero was filmed, the red phone box was still there when we last visited. Food in the Pennan Inn was great, mind your head when going in it has really low ceilings. If you do all this in your weekend you will be doing well but it is well worth it.- Enjoy

Nairn one of my favorite places as well any where up that area ,,but go over the bridge to the Black Isle and visit Rosemarkie /Fortrose and do a bit of dolfin watching ...the problem you will have is to many choices and not enough time ...but visit up the West coast side would be my first choice .
