Help - Water leak in passenger footwell

Hi all, I have a 1999 Boxster and have found water in the passenger footwell. So far it has damaged the remote ECU and I have had to have it replaced, since then I have not been albe to find where the water is coming in the car. Is this a problem that has been found before?

Any ideas would be a great help

Thanks

The drain tubes in the front 'scuttle' (battery compartment area) often get blocked with debris that collects there, which can cause water to run into the front of the footwell. There are also rear drain tubes (top storage area) which can block and cause the same problem under the seat. There is a procedure in the workshop manual for clearing the drain tubes. email me if you'd like the info.

Check the carpet on the bottom of the passenger door - if this is damp/wet then the plastic internal door membrane has become detached or ripped - can be bought form the OPC and changed yourself, there are details of door panel removal on here if you do asearch.

Leaking from the door membrane would not reach the footwell,it will be the drain tubes that are your problem. Whatever you do take great care if you decide to unblock them with a welding rod,or similar, as when pushed down the tubes they can push their way through the rubber when they reach the bend. This creates a much bigger problem.
