Help wet carpets

New member
Hi, I'm a new 944 owner (1985) and noticed that the carpets are wet in the rear (behind the front seats!) footwells, but not wet in the front footwells?? It don't look like the sunroof is leaking i.e. no wet seats or trim, and can't see any holes in the floor, can anyone give me a clue as to where the water is coming from?

Thank you.

Hello Mate, spooky Ive just spotted the identical problem in my footwell, no signs of water coming in from the sunroof etc but having rung Hartech they think the sunroof seals will be the culprit without having a proper look, going to take the carpets up later and start to have a fiddle about !!

Some more things to check:

The sunroof gutter has 4 drain tubes, one in each corner, that run down inside the A pillar at the front and behind the rear window at the back. Check that these are not blocked by pouring a small amount of water down each hole and watch it trickle onto the floor under each wheel arch. If blocked try to gently unblock with nylon cord (like Flymo strimmer).

The worst thing is if the tube has come off its metal spigot behind interior trim (possibly by over eager strimmer wire [:D]).
You'll then have to unscrew the interior trim and push it back on.

Another thing to check is the rubber seals round the rear window. I think the only way to do this is with a hosepipe at the window and someone inside looking for leaks
