Help with buying a 944. Please.

After selling my 924s, and nearly getting ripped of over buying a boxster, I am now looking at the 944.

Checking out a few, only problem is I have not got loads to spend now.

There is one on E-Bay at the momment not too far from me. It is item number 260380961709.

Looks to me pretty good with a full MOT and all the belts being done.
What does anyone else think, should I have a bid or two, or steer well clear?
Also, if I do have a bid, how high?

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.
Many Thanks.

Looks like the sills are shot to me. I think it looks a bit of a dog in the pictures so will probably look worse in the flesh.

2.7 Lux, so desirable.

BUT, as Ian has said, looks more than a little scabby in the piccies. Sill rot is expensive to cure as well ...

Going to try and have a look at the end of the week.
Don't fancy any huge repair bills for the sills!

Worth looking at if not far away - inspect the inside of the sills carefully by removing the vent in the driver's door jamb.

... and see if you can get a good poke at the sills in the middle of the scabbiest bit, with something sharp and sturdy (like a bradawl).

(It may be an idea to use a bradawl you are not very fond of, in case you lose it in the open-cast mine which results from the poking.)

My sills looked far better than that from the outside, with just the stone chip stuff lifting slightly.
Sanded the areas and now have some nice big holes. I have repaired them with load bearing gaffer tape for now (cant bear to see the holes) until I have the courage to crack out the welder.
So be warned they rot from the inside out.

Yeah, mine looked a bit like that and i had to replace both the other sills AND the inner sills, cost a fortune!

ORIGINAL: sc0tty

Yes, that car looks shot to me. The warniing signs are all there, no reserve, low starting bid etc....

I wouldn't go near it.[]

I've seen worse and might be worth a punt at the right price - currently only £720!

The sills would be the biggest concern, as long as the mileage, history and invoices check out, as they are almost always far worse than the minor bubbling would seem to indicate.

The guy's 100% feedback isn't quite all it seems though....

Buyer beware as always!

Let us know what it looks like in the metal though[:)]

Have to agree with what everyone else has said and not all seems well ref the feedback, from 2001- March 2005 its in German and lots of negative as a seller then suddenly reappears in March 2007 in English, why the gap ?

Just had a look at ALL the feedback myself, interesting to say the least!!!!!.
Think I might pass on this one, hey ho, the search goes on.

Looks promising. If the sills are genuinely rot-free then that is a good start.

Get it looked at by someone who knows 944's before commiting to buy tho'. If that is at all possible with an eBay auction ...
