help with diagnosis please...

On Thursday I managed to get maybe 400 yards from my driveway when my 924 2.0 decided that the engine didn't want to run anymore...

When I started that morning it when first time - as usual.
I had just turned right and it decided it had had enough... it's not like its missing or trying to fire - theres just nothing in it... it turns over, you can smell the fuel coming through (and hear the fuel pump).
the plugs, leads, dizzie cap were replaced 3 months ago. The coil has the correct resistance on on both primary and secondary windings. But it just won't fire.

My diagnosis is leading me to that little silver box behind the nearside headlamp - but that looks expensive and the wife will probably kill me :(

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Tim

Check to see if you have a spark. In the event of the ignition module failing the peculiar thing is that it can fail in such a way that it delivers a spark, but at either completely the wrong time or it is so feeble it wont light the fire. I had two fail, the original one after about 160,000 miles and the brand new £350 (then) replacement failed four years later after about 60,000 miles. Yes, parts of my 924 did about 247,000 mile before it bit the dust. There is good news. Good secondhand modules are available at a price directly proportional to your neeed, expect to pay around £100 these days, it was about five years ago that I bought one from Lodge sports for £75. If you exhaust all your options with no succes then get back to me, I have one in the loft but this is about getting you back on the road, not me touting my redundant 924 spares on the forum.

Thanks for the info - and the offer. Managed to get a new module - well actually my local Porsche specialist managed to get it from Porsche (apparantly it was the last one left!!!). £250 plus VAT.

there is a company online that can repair them for £125 plus VAT plus postage - but as most of these modules are getting long in the tooth, many are apparantly only good for scrap... but if there really are none left it might be worth bearing in mind.

For the benfit of other 924 owners did it fix it? I ask because this particular pearl of wisdom does not apear to be covered in the 924 registers FAQ

Sorry - I should have said!! - the new module solved the problem completely and we're back on the road again....

but I now have another challenge... time for a new topic I think...
