Hi everyone

Hope you are enjoying the beautiful weather. Been taking the car out a fair bit and its a lot of fun in this weather

Was wondering if anyone here knows car electrics and can help sort some issues. Need some help with sunroof, electric windows, electric boot open switch, horn (goes off on its on), etc...

Fuses seem to all be ok

Many thanks
Soli

You need to give us a bit more of a description

Which bits are / aren't working?

Is the sunroof working at all? key needs to be in a different position to retract arms, remove sunroof IIRC.

sunroof never works. no power gets to it for some reason. the driver side window worked yesterday but doesn't work today even though when i press the switch the battery gauge in the dashboard moves. the boot switch used to work, then stopped, today started working again. the horn fuse was missing when i looked into the fuse box. don't know why. i put the correct fuse in so the horn works fine. but it also works on its on when i turn the wheel.

Soli,
You were told the sunroof did no work weeks before you saw the car, the console switch has been changed, the relay swapped for a known working item, the motor and mechanism works fine when powered direct from the battery, the only thing i never got around to checking was the microswitch in the sunroof ?
The rear hatch release has always worked in my ownership but you usually need someone to be at the hatch to pull it free when you activate the switch, new hatch struts which are not tired will see it release on it's own.
Horn will be the rubbing ring on the bottom of the steering wheel needing adjustment probably ?
The window switches will probably need swapped out or stripped and cleaned ? they get worn due to arcing but can be cleaned up which is a fiddly job so better to swap with new.

I had the horn problem when I changed my steering wheel. It will probably be earthing out on the body of the steering wheel boss. When you remove the steering wheel you will see a copper strip, I cured mine by cutting the copper strip and making it a little thinner so it couldn't touch the edge of the boss.

Sound like the window switch may be working if the voltmeter is deflecting. It may just be seized. Try removing the door cards and applying 12 volts to the window regulator motor to prove one way or another. If it proves to be switches get new ones as the oval dash ones are extremely fiddly to mess with as Frenchy has said.

Sunroof is almost certainly the microswitch and is easy to prove one way or another by either shorting or open circuiting. Much easier if you have a multimeter, I got one for £5 on ebay!

Do you have the electrical drawings? You can download them for free here http://www.cannell.co.uk/Manuals_Original.htm

Just realised the downloads are not working. If you want them and cant get them elsewhere I could put them on a pen drive for you if you send me one.

thanks for that. i will check the horn thing in a few days. the garage said the sunroof is not a microswitch problem. so i will get a multimeter and track it down. the window works today fine. i have no idea why but will open it and see whats going on there. would be great to get the electrical drawings. can you email me your address and i'll send you a USB drive? solihillel@gmail.com
