Help with Homelink

I have tried 6 times, unsuccesfully to program my garage door remote into the overhead buttons in the car.

I have followed the manual to the letter (I think), clearing the system by holding buttons 1 and 3 for 20 seconds until the LED flashes. Select button 1 and the LED flashes. Press and hold the garage door opener at or around the front bumper as shown in the manual and...........nothing, no flashing from the fog lamps.

Is any of the above sequence incorrect, have I misenterpreted the manual?

The garage door remote has a new battery and will open the door from 100m up the road, so no problem with signal strength.

If anyone else has had this problem and solved it, your assistance would be gratefully received.

I have homelink and followed the instructions in the manual and managed to get my gate and garage openers to be recognised quite easily.

There was some discussion in spring last year about homelink and I seem to recall that if you have a more sophisticated gate/garage system which scrambles to code each time a signal is transmitted, then there were further complications to introduce the codes to the homelink system.

Suggest you do a search on homelink to find a number of threads - this is one....

Paul has made a wise suggestion about searching the forum, make-sure you look back more than the last 90 days which is the default. There was much discussion on this some time ago, and I believe some members had to change-out their garage-door equipment to make it compatible ! Good luck and please let me know how you do resolve the homelink.

Hi

I think that I started the thread that Rob alluded to. I went onto the Homelink site and found it hopless. My OPC couldn't help and eventually I contacted the manufactures of my garage door motor and discovered that I needed a supplementary module on the garage door mechanism for Homelink to work - it does now and once the proper parts were obtained it was a doddle to set up. Would I specify Homelink again - probably not - all in it probably cost me about £350 + aggravation. It is much cheaper to buy an extra remote to keep in the car but at least with homelink you cant lose the remote!

Thanks for the replies.

I "think" my garage door opener is a simple single code device, but the problem is I can't get the car to accept the signal and identify such by flashing the fog lamps - so I haven't got as far as seeing if the car can then open the door.

I will let OPC have a go at it first, check if car sender/receiver is faulty or disconnected etc.

I will keep you posted with results.

It depends on what version of homelink you have, and what type of garage door you have got.

The homelink on my M3 won;t operate the door, because I have version 5 software on the car (2003) and the garage door is much newer and operates with version 7 software.

Apparently my Porshce will be compatible with v7.

I use 'wife.v2' . Never fails to open the door in all weathers.

When they do fail its usually an easy (but expensive) process to upgrade 'misstress.v6' to 'wife.v3' and they normally come with a number of free upgrades like 'morenooky.v.69' etc.

Kevin

Haha. I installed wife.v.1 in car and after a short drive had no problem with garage opening. But, when wife.v.1 was installed in house and I used PCM tel.module to ring and request garage opening I had a problem with overheating. I think the rain blew the fuse.

OK, problem not solved but now understood!

Car operates at 433mHz, door opener at 868mHz. Manufacturer knows of problem but doesn't have a fix as yet (working on it).

Worth checking if anyone thinking of specifying Homelink that a) frequency is compatible or b) the door opener Company can provide a frequency convertor kit.

I had problems initially with Homelink for my German manufactured Seip door opener. Eventually had to purchase an extra receiver made by Seip to add onto my main garage door mechanism.. It now works well.

I have recently looked into changing my garage door for a roller blind type. The installer suggested that the extra receiver purchased from Seip would work on the new non-Seip door opener..
