help with my 944 sunroof

ORIGINAL: ryan 944

hi my sunroof is not undoing on the one,so i can't take it out,any idea's thanks ryan

Is your car an early model or a later (after 85.5) model. The sunroof mechanisms are different. Also are you trying to operate it correctly. On mine if you shut the roof or if its already shut, you turn the ignition key to the off position but leave the key in, then hit the sunroof up switch which disengages the catches and allows you to remove the panel. Mine is pre 85.5. On later models I think the procedure is the same only instead of turning the ignition key completly off you turn it to position 1.

it unlocks on one side only

Ah that's a better description [:)] It sounds like the one of the cogs or latches is misaligned. Clarks will tell you how to line them all up ok

From memory with my 944 i had the same and i had to renew cables anyway. In the rear headlining panel you take down you will see the motoe and cables. Undo the white box that houses the cogs. This should give you an idea what your up against, also onse removed you should be able to left the roof out.

Wayne is correct.

I have a similar problem to you, my sunroof will only drive half way open then one side stops. A main drive cable comes from the motor to the white gear box behind the roof lining, from there it transfers the drive to either side via the gears and cables. The cables have a spiral effect and this is what the gear drives, if this is stripped or stretched on one side that may be your problem.
