Hi There

Just poicked up my first Porsche - a 1999 Carerra4 Tip in lovely black. Have had a quick drive and haven't stopped smiling but I hgave the first of what I think may be many questions...
The spolier on the back shoudl come up at a certain speed - or so I thought - but mine doesn't. When I turn the car on I get a red light on the dash with a down arrow pointing to the spolier. This red light goes out after about 10 secs but the spoiler doesn;t coem up at any speed. I have every bill, invoice, and service doccie for the car - but not the owners manual. Have i already got a problem????

It should pop up at 75 and down at 35 I think. There is a button down by your right foot on the fuse box cover that you can press to have it up maually. One press for up but you have to keep it pressed to put it down. By the way, you cant see it when it does pop up from the drivers seat anyway, so it maybe up but you just cant see it!!

thanks for that - it does go up and down usung the manual button - but not - my wife was driving behind me on the m'way - at over 73mph!! its the red light with a down arrow pointing to the spoiler on startup that is a bot odd.....can it be disbaled from rising automatically - to avert attention from the boys in blue???

The light comes on at startup as a test.
If the spoiler does NOT come up when you go over 75, then the light is supposed to come on to tell you there is a problem.

Yes the light comes on for a bit everytime you turn the car on.... And as said above it will light up if there is a problem. Try a high speed run again and go over 80 just to make sure.

I can see the top of mine in the mirror when it comes up. And my head isn't touching the roof in case you are wondering.....

The light comes on at start up and goes out after you get to 5mph.
The tail should lift at 74mph and lower at 37mph for RoW cars. US/Canada spec cars are slightly different.
If your tail fails to come up or go down the dash light will light.....exception if the tail fuse has blown.
If you open up the rear engine lid and look deep down to the right hand side behind the light cluster, you will
see a rather off looking connector. This often gets corroded. If you unclip this connector and then de-connect it and re-connect
it a couple of times it usually clears up fault.

Have you tried to manually lift the tail with the switch in the driver's footwell (near the fusebox)?
