Have been few of these issues on the forum. [link]http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=367217&mpage=1&key=door%2Cflat&#367217[/link] There's an item in the Technical Articles too but I guess you need to be a member to read those. Dave Jones

Unwrapped my 996 (2001) after winter hibernation, and found that my drivers door handle doesn't work, I can hear something rattling every time I pull the handle up and down and thought I get that sorted next week (this weekend) but now my battery is now dead, key wont work to unlock the passenger door, so I cant get in my car, is there any way I can open the boot lid so i can jump it as the key is not good. Thanks

In your case, it would probably be best to get the engine compartment lid open, and jump the car from the terminal in the engine bay. Behind the rear light on the passenger side is an emergency release cable. Get a piece of stiff wire and bend a small hook on the end, to fish it out from the small gap along the bottom edge of the light. Once you get it open, you will find a positive battery connection under a black plastic cover. Use the stud at the back of the air filter as the earthing point. Once you have power, you should be able to unlock the car from the driver's door, and get in through the passenger door. You will probably find that the door won't open on the driver's side because a link to the handle has broken. See next post.

A massive thank you, I found the cable very easily behind the light and opened the boot, I now have to go and buy a second set of jump leads as they are in the front. once again thanks.

Perhaps now this is sorted it might be an idea to remove that info from a public forum where anyone can register? Just a thought :)

I've considered this before, but try Googling '996 emergency release cable'. This forum is way down the list, and there are even YouTube videos on how to do it. Of course, people could always buy my book, where it is explained in even more detail..... [;)] [;)]
