Thing is i have seen a bit of rust rearing its ugly head, the whole rear of the car needs a respray really, so shal i just do a home made patch up and wait a year for a respray, or take it to a proper painters to get sorted properly?

This bubbled up, popped, and the blister came off with the jet washer, it needs stopping before rust sets in, you can see yellowing already.

Well there it is warts and all! Its only an S but i would like to keep it and get it back to a good standard. Hope the pictures show up its the first time I've tried!

Hmm,... not sure why only some are being shown.

TBO, if the paint is bubbling I would say the rust underneath is going to be fairly serious and certainly not just surface rust. What do your sills look like inside the door vents? Although a pain I doubt this is uncommon of an early car thats probably spent alot of its time outside, you may find you best bet is to halt the rust as much as you can with treatment and look at getting each section repaired a bit at a time dependant on your budget. Althoug the longer its left the more expensive its going to get I would assume.

I did check the vents a while back and they look fine, but you can only really see mid-sill there. and a firm tap all along them makes me feel they are quite solid. I had heard they rust from within and i pray this is not the case! Not sure what can be done for around the number plate lights though!

My number plates have a little bit of rust around them too. Sadly there's a lot more rust around the latches for the rear hatch on mine :(

A timely reminder to me .... and perhaps some others [;)]

here is the culpret !... its the number plate light inside the boot . Or rather the culpret is all of us every time we press the sponge up into the registration plate area . Water is forced up around the light fitting and through the poorly detailed seal.

Over years the rust finally breaks through the rear valance ,usually long after our No plate lights have ceased to work.

You'll need to strip out the old light fitting an order a new light fitting with new seal. I will use silicon to seal this hidden area .

The area will need to be rust treated of course and I suspect will need checking and further ongoing treatment annually
