Fair to say that these cars really don't like sitting around for too long. This time its been 2-3 weeks since I last drove it and I am due at Castle Combe this Saturday!
Having just started it up, there seems to be a lot of thick toxic white smoke bellowing out from the exhausts. Aside form that the rev counter is going up and down and you can hear the engne revving back and forth. It may well just be cold or at least I hope so.

Is this something to be concerned about. I really hope not??

Thanks

The smoke is probably just oil that's spent the last two or three weeks seeping past the piston rings and shouldn't be anything to worry about.

The engine idling eractically may be the result of it sitting around, maybe the idle control valve needs a clean but I would try giving it a run first just to see if that helps first. I saw a walk through on removing and cleaning the valve a wee while back but I can't think where.

I don't think it's anything to worry about. How old is the fuel in the tank as it can loose Octane rating if you seldom use the car.

Put a dolop of shell high octane in it and take it for a gentle run to warm it through.

...and then give her the blast she deserves.

Couple of weekends ago drove mine for approx 300 miles of mostly motorway having not used her much for weeks.

First half of journey she seemed underpowered and I was thinking I was getting too used to her and maybe I needed a turbo. All the while I'd been pottering along in the 1.5K to 3K rev range. Then I had an excuse to move up towards the red line just once. BUT that one blast had cleared out something because from that point on she's been back on top form with so much torque anywhere in the rev range she makes me smile all the time again.

Yes - they need to be used[:)]

Maximum two weeks before the battery goes flat on mine, and when starting sometimes it is normal and other times a slight delay before the vrooom post key turn. Once she is warm though, it's all good again. [;)]

Mark is right - I drive mine to Switzerland in the spring every year and by the time I arrive down there it feels much more responsive and even the suspension improves. There is no doubt they improve with use. My old girl is showing 172k miles now and the engine has never been apart !!

a bit of the white smoke will just be water vapour...
and I'd use high octane all the time... not just a drop after it's been stood a while.
I think they should really be used regularly in order to keep seals in ship shape...
