okay have a 944 in that was running fine then on start up only firing on 1 and 4.

checked DME fine
checked coil fine
new leads, plugs, distributor cap and rotor

now I am getting a weak pulse on spark plug leads 2 and 3 but still running rough.

normal pulse on 1 and 4

have ordered reference and speed sensors in case inconsistent signal from reference sensor causing issue

have you boys got any ideas please?

I sem to recall hearing the last stage of the brain, in anything other than an S2 is an amplifier (the S2 it is separate, on the Nr side inner wing) I also recall hearing something about it being two separate ones for 1&4 and 2&3, but could be confusing it with signals to the injectors, and something about pulling one injector lead because the amp can cope with running three but not four for some reason - Anyway, I am guessing you have a spare brain you could easily swap out and prove or disprove that being the problem?

I thought that was the injectors, but I guess the ignition could be split too, very strange! is the distributor cap central about the rotor arm. Is the starter ring consistent? if it was rusty on one half would that affect the reference sensors?

ok solved

reference sensor replaced and reading well
two bad spark leads swapped and fine
injectors 3 and 4 blocked

changed and running like a dream - was going to use car for my beetle project but its just too good

its a 1986 black 944 with 125K miles and light tan interior with all electrics working

if anybody is interested please let me know your email and I will send pictures and a bit more info

still need a 1986 for a chassis base for a beetle so would part ex on with rotten sills as I don't need them

cheers for comments
