I've bought one!

I have been looking for ages, after missing several Rally Timer sets at £500-ish (because they were too dear - theyre now closer to £1,500-ish!), I have found a new old stock 542.817 and I am really excited. I suspect that the matching 289.801 (or 299.855 24hr) Master-Time clock will be elusive, though...

For a moment there I thought you meant a watch!

Nice catch and its always nice to get Heuer stuff at sane money, my 74 Carrera with the cal 12 movement is a case in point cost me about 1/3rd what the same watch would have cost if it came in a Monaco or Silverstone case.

Id imagine that you have missed out on as many good watches as I have, the values of which have since rocketed...

Its just mental. I bought a Rolex Seadweller a few years back from a bricks and mortar trader, wore it for about 18 months then sold her through TZ-UK for the same price thanks to the rises. If I had held on to that watch I would be looking at the thick end of a grand or so in profit to today.

Sadly nothing I kept seems to have gone up much in value []

From the thread on Tipec:

I have also bought a NOS TAG Heuer Microsplit 1010 to go with the Heuer 1010 that I already had.

You can also buy a conventionally cased Heuer stopwatch with a similar movement (to the Monte Carlo) and 12hr disc. The same vendor has one of those too, for a reasonable-ish US$500.

I have a pair of Breitling 1/10th stopwatches and Ive just bought a used 12hr Breitling stopwatch to match them. it has a 12hr dial at the 6 O'clock position rather than a disc, but I suspect that it uses the same movement all the same.

The only watches that I have kept hold of Neil, which have appreciated in any real way are an Omega Chronostop date and an automatic (original) Dynamic.
