HHR delete, orange cap style mods, induction, pannels, open cones

I've tried open cones in varying designs, pannel filters, air box mods, ram induction etc all in the past.

I've even tested the HHR delete / orange cap style mods and induction on the porsche (but reverted it back to factory the same day).

I've got lots of opinions on this, but want to know what you guys think (I am currently backing up data and mitigating data loss so yes I am bored :))

Get a sports exhaust. It's all you need. I found the orange cap trick seems to work better with the exhaust, for some strange reason.

That's interesting as I had heard some people say that.

I still find it odd that the orange cap style modification would be of any benefit to the car. I am sure that Porsche engineers knew what they were doing when they desinged the intake. From my experience, I don't favour open cones or induction either. I don't care how much cold air anyone can tunnel towards the cone, the heat in the engine bay when in traffic or even when moving normally on the road will heat the air in the bay and cause heat soak.

I've no doubt on the track with much more air flow it may be another story, but for the road I doubt at any time any open induction so close to the engine is worth it (other than for noise).

I removed the HHR on the 996 as an experiment and tried both blanking the HHR pipe and outlet and it made no difference to either the induction tone or throttle response. I also tried a silicone pipe direct from the box to the TB with and without the HHR and again noticed no difference.

I reverted to stock to keep it factory, but I have heard a lot of varying comments on such modifications so was interested to hear of other peoples views.

Cheers,

Its my intention to do the HHR delete but I want to hear one that's been done first.

I love the sound of my car with the PSE and if the HHR delete can add a fraction to that experience then I Am all for it.

Hopefully there will be someone at the Cotswold Rally that has done it, so I can hear the difference.

My thoughts so far are:
reasons to do it: why should some Eurocrats dictate what my car sounds like? (I have removed the died on my PSE, the best "smiles per pound" mod I have done)
Reasons not to: I am not keen on the orange or blue silicone pipe, I would prefer a black "looks like it is original".
