Hi 1st post from me and help needed - Roof

Hi,

This is my 1st post on the forum, so hi to every1
I also use Boxa.net

My roof has developed an annoying creak/crack type noise. I have tried lubricating all of the rubber seals & contact points for the roof but I am still hearing this noise. []

I can't really pinpoint exactly where these noises are coming from but it does sound to me like it is coming from inside the roof lining (possibly the central bar that runs across the middle of the hood). Could it be that the roof needs adjusting/tightening so it is more taught? If so, does anyone know how this is done?

Suggestions have been made, that I adjust the "tension cables"
(The cables with the ball joints on the end that you need to un-clip to get to the engine)
Can anyone advise on this?

Alternatively, If this continues, I'm thinking of taking to a roof/trimming specialist.
(Need to get this sorted in time for Lemans) [;)]

Can anyone recommend a good roof/trimming company in the Kent area?

Many Thanks in advance

Adam

you don't say how old your Boxster is. ?

i would pop along to your OPC (Tonbridge?) and ask their advice. could be as simple as the cable needing tightening a little. be careful there not adjusted too tight though as my OPC did this and it ended up with the roof seam ripping.. they replaced my roof FOC.[:D]( car was 18months old)

Hi,

Sorry, my car is a 2003 (facelift)
I am a bit reluctant to take it to Tonbridge OPC as I have had poor service from them before.
I may take it to Guilford though.

I don't suppose you know of any independent roof people?

Cheers

Adam

Thanks Helen, [;)]

If its a loud cracking sound when traversing pavement ramps or larger road irregularites then its probably the two slots in the header rail that have dried out (where the two lugs on the leading edge of the roof locate). Buy a small jar of vaseline and smear a decent amount of it onto the lugs or into the holes.

Many Thanks for this. Yes, sometimes it is a load cracking sound and sometimes it isn't so load. It does vary. One thing I do know, is that it's f*cking annoying!! []

I did think it maybe something to do with these lugs and I have tried lubricating them with silicone lubricant and I have also tried making them slightly larger so they fit in to the housing more secure (sticky felt pads or tape around the lugs), but so far I can still here the noise. [:(] I will have another go at lubricating them though.

Is this a common problem then? What about the suggestion of tightening the tension cables for the roof? I wondered if this would make a difference. [8|]

Many Thanks

Adam

Suggest that you actually replace the little platic caps on the end of the roof locating lugs (they just pull off / push on).

Part No. is 98656362503 - cheap as chips and makes a big difference, at least in my case !
