I thought I would poke my head in and say hi, joined the club at the Classics Show at Donnington last weekend. My 944 is currently under a cover on the drive waiting for me to save up the money to get the main sills done ( already had rear quarters, wing bottoms and the small sills done ) so I will be searching for advice on this one! I have found some proper storage relatively local to me so from next weekend she will be totally out of the elements.

Me and Ruth are a bit of a petrol head couple, with her daily being an E46 M3 convertible and I also have a BMW E34 520 Touring as a 'family friendly' classic. My daily is a BMW F10 520d but thats ruled by 45 pence per mile car allowance!

I've been gutted since the MOT failure last year as I thought I had all the rust sorted on the 944 and should've been looking forward to a least a couple of years without big spends on her. I hope to have her back on the road next year, and first on my shopping list are the sills. When the search function is working on the forum i'll be mining the sill threads! Anyway apologies for the ramble, and I look forward to getting involved in meets and the forum.

Hi Matthew

Welcome to the forum...your car looks great and in the best colour too:) I'm sure that you'll find plenty of help and answers to any questions that may arise.
Hope you get the car sorted soon...

regards

Pete

Hi and welcome to the fun world of 944 ownership. The work that you mention will be worth doing in the long run, just keep the faith and as others will say "lots of photo's please".

Yes, lots of photos please.

And ignore that tosh * from Pete about red being the best colour; everyone knows that the high point of 944-dom is a Baltic Blue S2 .... [:)]

Oli.

* - Hope that calling another member's (clearly incorrect) opinion 'tosh' doesn't breach the forum rules as we're a bit more aware of these things these days!

Well tried signing up to photo bucket four times.....every time the account is not recognised! Any recommendations for image hosting websites?

Hi Matthew, welcome the the forum.

Genuine sills are still available from a Porsche dealer and also https://www.rosepassion.com though they occasionally go out of stock. Who did you use for the other bodywork, they might prefer just to fabricate up some steel. Make sure they make a diamond shaped dimple in the right place to mark the central jacking point [:)]

Well while I struggle with online photo sharing heres one of the 944 part way through its visit to the bodyshop in 2014. Both sides where just as bad and worked on. I went for GRP repair panels for the wings, simply didn't have the dosh for new and couldn't find decent used. I had the front bumper re done at the same time as it was looking rather tired. At the moment she looks pretty tidy from the outside its just underneath where it goes horribly wrong!

Hi Matthew

In regards to metal repair panels.....try these guys.... https://www.classiccarpartsandpanels.co.uk/shop/porsche-944-sill/ I bought a front wing lower repair panel for my car earlier this year, you wouldn't be able to tell that the car has had a repair, but it does need a good repair shop, one who knows these cars well for best results....there is a lead time though as these panels are made to order, usually 4-6 weeks

regards

Pete

Hi Pete,

Thanks for the link i'll definately look at them when it comes to purchase. With the inners needing doing I've read a few things about OEM being the best way?

For a complete inner I would agree...most just need the rear section near the torsion bar patching up....this can be done by fabrication...I did my own with son's help last year....the lower wing repair panels are not available from OEM and so the company I suggested is a bit of a God send..

Cheers

Pete

I suppose i'm stuck in that lovely position of i don't know what exactly lies beneath until it gets ripped apart! Hope for the best and save for the worst!

Well tomorrow the 944 gets picked up and off to it's secure storage facility in Worcestershire! Finally inside....and theres a bit of household re financing going on that may result in the readies being available to get the work done.....onwards and upwards!
