Over the weekend I drove upto Edinburgh and purchased David Jones's C2 (advertised in club vehicles for sale section).

Had an enjoyable 350 mile drive back on the motorway, playing with buttons and switches and thoroughly enjoying my first hit of 911!

I have done the dreaded 'buying the first one I saw', but I liked the original feel the car had and its tight feel. I also didn't want to do too many more 700mile round trips.

The good stuff about it:
Red with black leather interior!
Amazingly fresh interior with sunroof
History (mostly Porsche)
Original paint, bar a smart-repair to a scratch on the door and some scuttle panel work.
Chassis felt very tight for its age
Engine sounds sweet

The bad stuff, in priority order (- the car has a few things to sort out, so I'll be seeking regular advice).
Keeps stalling after heavy driving - tick over poor
Rust coming through on wheel arches
Wheels need a refurb
Oil cooler is leaking

I had the car inspected by David Phillips, Porsche specialist in E-burgh who I can highly recommend. He is a very accomodating, knowledgeable specialist who took the time to talk me through the car and its faults (whilst on the ramp!). Says he doesn't advertise and I can see why.

So there you have it ... post #1 of ???

Welcome :)

I also bought the first one I saw after thinking that "it'll do no harm just to have a look" not even considering where to put it, insuring it, affording it, selling other cars to make way for it........ others see many before they find one the like.

Enjoy, summers coming and the club do some great discounts to race meetings with infield parking and displays - a great way of meeting more of us [:D]

Happy to say, mine was the first one I saw and bought. (Actually thinking about it my friend hired one for his wedding back in 1992 and that is when I thought that is the car I want when I was 40)

So yes before I hit 41 after 17 years I bought mine.

Fortunately it had been inspected and our Iain & Dave were kind enough to put me in the right direction!!

Last Sunday took it to a wedding in London and on the way back home I did fly past a Guards Red "G" plate around midnight between J19-J21 on the M1 (wonder who that may have been?)

Happy motoring and may you enjoy each time you turn that key!!

Welcome Lee, to the World of 964!! Congratulations on the purchase and the insight to get an inspection done. I, too, bought the first car I found that met my desires - not knowing that my desires were unrealistic!!

You'll probably experience many of the smaller issues that most 964 owners encounter - and I suspect your tickover/stalling issue is likely to be a dirty ISV from your description.

Regards

Dave

Master that's very funny, I had wanted a 911 since I lived in Germany for 13 years as a child, I dove the 964 in 91/92 as a mate worked for OPC & that was that smitten, I have had mine for 4 years + now, my wife called in the "MENOPORSCHE" [:D][:D]

C2dweller welcome I am sure you will enjoy the experience like the rest of us[8D] good luck with the new car[:)]

Dave...you are the Man with kind words....two more posts and you hit the magical 2000[:D]
