Hi

Not sure if this is the right place to say hello, but I thought I'd better get going and post something, as I've been lurking for a couple of weeks [8|]...

Just become a Porsche owner for the first time with a nice 944 S2 in black. It's done a few miles (182k), but then so have many of them, and the inch thick book of receipts went someway to allay my concerns. The car seems to drive pretty well, although it's improved already from new plugs, leads, rotor arm and dizzy cap [:)], and I have plans to get the injectors ultrasonically cleaned shortly as well as fitting a new fuel filter. Then, I get the feeling that thte modifications might start, as I plan on tracking it quite a bit next year and hte brakes and suspension definitely need some work before then [;)].

Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting to know a few people on here. In the meantime, here are a couple of obligatory photos of the new car...

Welcome, car looks lovely! As you say, they've usually done big miles- it's not a worry if it's been well looked after :) Having the injectors cleaned is a very good idea if they're otherwise untouched, most people report better fuel economy and smoother running [;)]
 
Hi, Welcome. Good choice of car. She looks like a nice one. I'm going to contradict Bonzo (!) and say that I considered having my injectors cleaned a while ago (S2, done about 160k miles), but it seemed to be not worth it. A lot of people were more than happy to take my money to clean them for me, but no-one would offer me any kind of garuntee, and two good friends in the automotive business said that it was unlikely to make any real difference. I decided against it (although still have some half-formed plans to do the job myself with an ultrasonic bath and a switching circuit.) If you do go ahead then let us know how you get on. Oli.
 
Hi and welcome. I had my injectors cleaned about 10 years and 100k miles ago and it cured a period of slightly rough running which had been spoiling the car. There was a definate improvement and they came with a little report showing that before cleaning one of them had very poor flow and atomisation. Back then it was £80 for all four to be done and well worth the money
 
Nice looking car Highwayman. Welcome to the world of Porsche. You do realise there is no going back? You are now in the grip of a disease that will afflict you and your wallet for the rest of your natural? Anyway, I want you to tell me how your front indicators change from clear to orange????
 
Well there you go. Two different opinions on injector cleaning from two different people! Paul's opinion is the one to follow ... and him saying that has made me think that perhaps I should have mine cleaned ... Oli.
 
I think maybe there is a touch of the 'placebo effect' when a job like injector cleaning is done!! However, I'd still like to get mine done- quite tempted to build a device to pulse the injector off the car... Back on topic- has your car been lowered Highwayman?

Oops, my secret is out [:D]. The bottom photo is older than the top one...by about a week! I just had to swap the oranges for clear ones, as they look a lot better to my mind. Thanks for all of the comments about injector cleaning. I did this on a previous car (300bhp Fiat Coupe 20V Turbo with 130k miles), so I know that it's worth it [;)]. I may not notice as much difference with an N/A car, but it will give me peace of mind that they are operating as best they can, rather than worrying that I'm not getting the best out of the car. Bonzo - I don't believe that my car has been lowered, but then I am a bit new to Porsches, so perhaps it has. Perhaps you guys could enlighten me on this, as here is a photo of my front strut, which I am not convinced is original. Any thoughts?

It does look like an aftermarket spring to me. Is the ride crashy? I reckon the top half of that spring doesn't do a lot when the weight of the car is on it's wheels!
 
The ride's not great, if I'm honest, but then I suspect that much of the suspension components are a little 'tired'. I have plans to replace and refurb most of it in the coming months... The springs don't seem to match anything that I have seen posted on other threads, so my suspicion is also that they are aftermarket, and probably from some time ago [:D]!! Phil
 
Could be Phil. I'd be interested to hear the others' opinions on the ride because I think in general, 944's are a little harsh over the bumps. Mine always has been, I particularly notice it when I've been out of the car for a while and got used to another of my toys. In fact, I've lowered the rear tyre pressure a few lb's which has made a difference- it soaks up cats eyes etc better.
 
They do seem to have a very high rear tyre pressure, so I might try that trick [;)]. Mine is OK, but then my everyday transport is an Audi S3, which isn't reknowned for its smooth riding nature, especially on poor surfaces...[&:]. Phil

The manual (and sticker in the petrol flap) from 1990 onwards says 36psi front and 44psi rear. Previous to that it said 36psi all round though none of us really know why. I've run mine at the lower pressure for the past 13 years and it's much better that way. 44psi at the back is just horrible and tends to wear out the centre of the tyre quickly [:mad:]
