HID Conversion Kit

What about the increace in current required? Does anyone know if the wiring for the power supply would go right back to the battery? If not surely it would put alot more strain on the original wiring loom and standard components?

"Draws only 35watts (50 W for from the vehicle's electrical / charging system compared to 55 / 60 watts for halogen systems"

Just found this on their site but how can this be true??? If it is then I'd better order them now before someone increaces the price!

HID kits take less current than normal filament lamps as they are discharge lighting, similar to street lights in operation but these are quick to strike and light, and then take less current.

Thankyou... I like the sound of this option[:)] I have always wanted better lights on my car so v.happy to be a test dummy for other 944 owners as soon as I get my car back from Jon. Especially at that price!

I had a serious look at this a couple of years ago,the HID light fittings did have a large protrusion(transformer?? )that comes out behind the lamp unit and at the time it looked nigh on impossible with the space avalable on a 944,worth checking this before you commit, they might have changed since though, it would be great if they do fit as even with new lamps on my car the visibility at night is not great.(maybe i need to clean them).

With the roads as they are currently I'm finding i'm having to clean my headlights a couple of times a week. I think because the lenses stand up vertical they get plastered with all the dirty water kicked up from the car in front then the warmth of the light evaporates the moisture leaving the muck behind.

I had this same concern re the fitment on a 964 and I added a post to Neil's original thread this morning asking him exactly this question. I've just fitted a kit to my work van and the H4-3 bulb does have a big chunk behind it but I was interested to hear Neil's experience. I have no idea of the clearance available on a 944 but we might at least get a little nearer current fact.

Regards

Dave

Would be interested to see if it has changed enough sizewise,The problem i found when i tried to get a HID kit to fit my 944 was the lights need clearance to move,a problem you won't get on a 964 or a van [:D]Things need to be tidy and tucked away behind those lights otherwise a comprehensive set of tools including soldering iron and electrical tape might be needed to be carried on board at all times[;)]

Oi, cheeky []

I know that Jon Mitchell does a HID conversion specifically for 944. I've no idea of price, you'd have to call him.

I've always been happy with my lights. At the speed I drive I can easily see the man with the flag walking in front of me.

My eyes are defo not as good as they were at night and at the Ace i couldn't hear inside with the acoustics and background hubbub,so next year its HIDs and ear trumpet for me[:D][:D]

I carry a gas-powered soldering iron and electrical tape (as well as about 10 replacement fuses, two normal relays, a DME relay, some spare switches, an AVO meter, 5m each of four colours of wire and some heat-shrink) all the time anyway - what's the problem with it?

Oli.

Crickey, that's some emergancy tool kit! Shame you were'nt on Apollo 13: "Houston, we have a problem. But it's OK, Oli's got his soldering iron"!
