hid problem........

Just purchased an HID upgrade kit for my 993. Went ahead with the upgrade but discovered that the H1 wont fit inside the bulb aperture. The kit was puchased from HIDS4U, pro kit. The bulb is definitely too wide to fit. Anybody else had this problem and if so does it require drilling out the aperture until the bulb fits.........?

Kevin

Hi Kevin
had exactly the same kit/problem. I used a drill bit to bore out the aperture.

Absolutely Maurice.... however, I fitted them last night, took all of 2 hours. WOW what a difference. I'm still a bit peeved though that the blurb never mentioned having to drill the aperture to allow the bulb to fit AND the instruction manual that they supply the kit with has a 993 onthe front of it!!!!![]

that was my old car []

if you look closely one bulb is purple and the other is blue !

Sundeep, I take it you had the same problem that I've had re the fitment of the H1?

I seem to recollect you mentioning your car before but dont recollect the issue re the bulb.

I've fitted 3 sets of the HIDS4U conversions to different 993s - all required the use of a jewellers file to slightly widen the apperture for the bulb to fit. Shame they don't point this out at the start, but it isn't major work to do

I too have been contemplating the HIDS4U replacement. One of the concerns I had is the close proximity of the class section of the HID bulb to the metal/alloy H1 fitting in the lamp itself. Have you encountered problems with overheating or failure of the HID bulb because the glass of the bulb is not in the "free" space of unit rather than enclosed in the metal fitting.

PJ,

I've had my HIDs on my 993 for 18 months now. I have had no problems of the type you describe. In fact I've had no problems at all.

thanks for that (pickled piper) did you have to remove much of the light fitting to get clearance for the hid bulb?

PJ, I didn't have to remove any of the light fitting. the bulbs were a tight fit but went straight in. I did change the clips that hold the bulbs in as per the TSB in the Tech Articles.
