HID upgrade

Hi - help please!
I have just fitted the HID upgrade kit from Aceparts - which look truly amazing - pictures will follow...but in the meantime, when they;re on, they cause terrible interference with the radio.
I have put the ballasts to the side of each light in the void between the light and the wing...the ballasts are secured by strong velcro but what can I do about the interefernce?
All suggestions gratefully received
Thanks
Alex

That's exactly where Paul put them on his HID conversion using the aceparts kit that is written up in the Technical section. I put them in he same place, but used a different kit. I've never had any interference problems, and I'm sure Paul would have said if he had any problems.

First off I would check all the connections carefully, and if that doesn't cure it, sounds like you may have a dodgy ballast.

Pual are you out there??? or Richard - can you tell me Paul details so I can PM him...
thx
Alex

me again - sorry - but is there some kind of aerial signal booster for the aerial in the windscreen? If so, does it have its own power/fuse and where will I find it? As I have noticed that radio reception generally is pretty patchy and is far worse with the HID upgrade on, but could it be a problem with a signal booster or its location/grounding?

The antenna booster is in the A pillar on the driver's side. You can just make it out in this photo:

Sorry guys, didn't have my PC on last night.

I've emailed you directly Alex, but basically I've not had any problems with the kit (touch wood!).

Do you have a stock radio fitted? If not it could be that your radio has no suppressors fitted ??? What year is your car? Maybe they've fitted different suppressors over the years ?

Sorry, but (although I'm an elecrical engineer) I can only think of either asking Alan at ACEparts to swap the kit, or try fitting a noise suppressor on the 12v supply to the radio (Halfrauds sell them for old Capris etc...)

thanks (yet again) Richard - which bit is the booster - and can it be replaced or even better - enahnced in any way? Paul mentioned a noise suppressor to the 12v radio supply...any ideas on that too....?

Noise is being picked up by your stereo via the 12v supply. So you need to fit a noise suppressor (behind your head unit) in-line with the 12v supply. You man need to fit two, one for the permament and one for the ignition feeds.

I've seen them in Halfords, but they don't show them on their website. it's just a little black box, with a red wire sticking out each end.

If you have a seperate amplifier, isolating the head unit from the amplifier will do the same job (not sure how mind, because the amplifier will have a 12v feed from the car too...hmmmmmm) http://www.m-99.co.uk/Car_Audio/Noise_Suppressor/noise_suppressor.html

Have a read of this.... it may also help. http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/ca/learningcenter/car/pdfs/noise_guide.pdf

Are you guys using the HID kits with the normal headlights or with the halogen litronics?

The kit is used with the standard HALOGEN PROJECTOR STYLE headlights.

Halogen Litronics ? The kits aren't used with the XENON LITRONICS, as they already have HID (Xenon) lamps and ballasts.

The booster is the thingy that's fixed to the pillar - behind the grabber claw which is poking upwards. I doubt if that is your problem - I would take Paul's advice first. Just in case, here is the part number:

Not on the pre-02 models.

The standard (non-Litronic) headlight units.

So in turn all you are doing is blinding on coming drivers?

I don't understand your question allomoto. Upgrading the lamp/bulb will not blind oncomming drivers any more than before. Sure the lamp will be brighter, but the beam angle remains the same... I don't see how this is any worse than before. The standard headlights don't have self leveling... but this is no worse than with the halogen standard bulbs...
