Hidden Rust and annual checks

Heres is a potential rust area that is hidden from view . Its the number plate light located just below the tailgate lock and is accessed by popping the carpet studs at the lip of the rear load area and pulling back the carpet.

Its caused primarily by failure over time of a poor quality seal .allowing water ingress . As far as I can see this can probably only happen when we wash our cars... so its our own fault [:(]

As you can see ,the light fitting seal is leaking on my 89 S2 and is starting to rust both fitting and bodywork.
I'm hoping to tackle this today .

This could be a useful thread to suggest other potential hidden rust areas we all should check periodically
edit ...

p.s. I'm not looking for advice on treating rust ok ![;)]

Quite a common problem, clean it up and clatter some cavity wax in there and sort your seal !

Ooooh, no need to shout there fella. Communication is about what others think/heard you say, not what you think you told them. [;)]
