hids4u h/light conversions

so its easy to fit ! but what end result same or better than std + did you have dip or dip & main beam ? dave

Hi Dave

The answer is they give a massive improvement over standard. My personal opinion would be to go for dipped beam only and replace the main beam bulbs with uprated ones. When these lights first illuminate, they take a second to come up to full strength, so they would probably be a bit impractical for main beam use.

Regards.

thanks for the info it will now be my next project,
what size ( watts ) bulbs you get for main beam ?
& wheres the best place to get them from ?

I fitted an HID kit from HID online to my 993 yesterday. I used it for the dipped beam and spent some time fitting it using proper crimped connectors, heat shrink and black sleeving. This way it looks like it was fitted at the factory.

The difference in lighting is astounding and now the headlights match the performance of the car.

I would recommend this modification to anybody that drives their 993 after dark. I wish I had done it months ago.

i cant wait till i get this fitted on ! if it makes the dip so much better i will see where im going in future ! dave

Cars with 'bi-xenon' lights (i.e. main beam too) use a little shade to blank off part of the dipped beam when in dipped mode. When on full beam, the shade moves out of the way, letting the xenon beam out straight, and the conventional main beam illuminate. You don't get main beam xenons.

When xenon lights come on, they take a good few secs to get up to full strength, plus I believe the ignition process of constant dipped-main switching would cause the xenon system to conk out.

Ian at hids4u told me to go for this set http://www.hids4u.co.uk/product_details.asp?id=45 which I might well do as the winter nights close in...

Hi,

I have just bought a 993 and wish to upgrade the headlights can someone please advise as to which kit to buy and are they easy to fit? do I need to drill holes etc its my new toy and I have no wish to spoil it[:D]

Thanks

Pete

Hi Maurice,

Thanks for the info is it possible to secure the ballasts units with strong doubled sided tape ? or do they generate to much heat for this kind of fixing? if so how do you fix them secure............or don't you?

Cheers

Pete

Pete

you need the latest single unit plug & play systems, which is heat resistant and tucks easily behind the headlamp unit, so no need to have them in the boot compartment (2 units per side is now old technology!)... 20-30 min job to fit, if you have the tools

regards

ok great can i geat the units from hids4u ? or somewhere else?

sorry for all the questions very new to all this upgrade thing[:D]

Hi,

Does this mean inside the headlamp itself under the plastic cover or do you still need to drill a hope in the cover? and place the units behind the headlamp in the pipework? What size are the units?

Thanks

Pete

Just on the phone to the peeps at hids4u - they are not too sure - but would these units fit a 1988 930 & a 1992 968...?
Does any1 know if above run with H1 or H4 bulbs.

Regards,
Andrew

I am getting a set of these for my 964 so if they fit that they should fit a 930 I think. Also, someone else has fitted them to a 964 - see a couple of postings earlier - so it ought to be OK.
