High level brake lights

Hi all

Has anyone had the pleasure of changing one of the small bulbs in the high rear brake light, as two have failed on my 1996 C4. Your advice would be most welcome as Porsche garage seem to think it is a bit of a job, presumably meaning expensive.

Many thanks
Steve

Steve,

I don't think it's that difficult. The cover just pops off - held on with spring clips (make sure you don't lose them!!). The light unit itself can then be removed quite easily and you'll find that the bulbs are soldered to a connecting PCB. I beleive the bulbs are available from the OPC or you cold try somewhere like Maplins for some compatible ones. It would be tempting to se if there were some compatible LEDs too which would obviously mean changing all of them.

Regards

Dave

When I had this problem I could not find the correct replacement bulb from any source, even though I had removed the unit and get to the light board itself, which I took to various people as a sample.

FYG it is quite easy to remove the unit, just needs a little courage to pull off the cover, which is clipped at each end, then a couple of nuts.

Finally put it all back and took it to OPC (Colchester). Had nine bulbes replaced for a total of £57

The Part numbers are P999.631.135.90 at £1.69 each ( Jul 2003 prices) Time charged 30 minutes. Did it while I waited.

On balance I thought this was not too bad and saved me a lot of messing about with a soldering iron. Since then no further bulb failures.

Try this: http://p-car.com/diy/3rd/

I did this in less than an hour. Your local OPC will get you the bulbs you need and at a not-too-Porsche-like price!
