High level rear brake light/ Softop fault

As I walked away from my 987 this afternoon I noticed that the high level brake light was on. I failed to get it to go off so opened the roof the see if I could access any wiring, there was nothing obvious but I then found I could not close the roof. Eventually I have managed to get the roof to close normally but the high level brake lamp remains illuminated and a noise like a solenoid sticking can be heard even with the ignition key removed.
Has anyone experienced a similar fault please ?

Hi Richard
Yes underneath the passenger seat is soaking. I've pushed somel towels underneath the carpet to try to absorb the water but given it's now dark it was difficult to do more.

The Rear Body Control Unit is under there, and that is what is causing your problem. If I were you I would take the seat out and get it dried out as soon as possible. It might already be too late, but if you can get the control unit out, remove the cover, and gently dry it out with a hairdryer, you might just save it.

Sounds like you have blocked drains which has caused rain water to come into the cabin & cause havoc with the electrics. I think there's some important control stuff under the passenger seat which doesn't like getting wet. When it does it causes all sorts of electrical problems...

Thank you both, busy with towels now and will attempt to get the seat and control box out tonight but as the car is parked in the street not the easiest task !

Thank you Richard for this, I got the seat out and removed the control boxes whose connectors were slightly wet. I re-assemled everything and all worked normally except I had an airbag fault indication.
Booked car into Cardiff OPC this morning to double check all was ok and to investigate the airbag lamp. Airbag lamp was re -set and no other faults found and all done FREE OF CHARGE !

Delighted to hear you caught it in time. So often, water will brick them. The airbag light came on because you removed the seat with the battery connected.

Now get those drains cleared!! [:D]
