high mileage - anything to look out for

Hi

I am thinking of picking up a 2000-2002 Boxster S for use as a second car. Just weekend drives and a few track days etc. There appear to be some good deals on cars with a little higher mileage (60k+ see example below) and I was wondering if there was anything to look out for that is needed as the mileage gets higher eg suspension / bushes, engine component wear, hood etc.

I am likely to do quite low mileage so not that worried about the miles but wonder whether it is a false economy. Facelift 2003 cars are not much more, any views on whether this is worthwhile?

I had one a few years ago so am familiar with the car but interested to hear how people are getting on with them as the mileage increases.

Thanks

I drove several Boxsters last year before I bought a 2003 facelift Boxster S. The price gap between pre-facelift and facelift cars has narrowed further and so now more than ever it's worth buying a facelift car. Apart from the obvious benefits (further development, glass rear screen, glovebox, slightly more power, extended servicing schedules compared to the very early S') I think it sounds slightly better but that may be just me. As for what to look for, my car had about 55k on the clock when i bought it. I bought it in the knowledge that it had reached the stage in it's life that it would require significant expense in the not too distant future - in the last year I have, amongst other things, replaced all of the tyres, discs and pads all round, changed all of the fluids and had the wheel alignment done. Not cheap when you use a main dealer. It's worth trying to find a car that has had all of this done recently or try to seek an appropriate price adjustment. I have been thinking of trading up to a Cayman S and sadly have come to the realisation that facelift models are now being sold for as a little as £14.5k. Great if you're buying but not so great for me ... best of luck

Hi. Thanks for the replies. Funny you metion the Cayman, I had a 2.7 for a long weekend and it was one of the best road cars I have driven recently. Not sure I could live with the looks but it made me think about a Boxster (marginally better looking in my view) and I was shocked how cheap they were. I think you are right, a facelift model is the way to go ..... now to find one in seal grey. If you are selling yours, drop me a line.

John - looks like you have had a lot of fun, hope you are well. May well be returning to the fold soon.

Regards
