High-pitched chirping ??

Hi all,

I've had my MY07 C4S for about 2 months and I'm loving it. Desperately trying to avoid new owner paranoia but I can't help but notice a high-pitched chirping from the rear when I have a window down [&:] .

It doesn't happen all the time, but it's very noticable when entering a multi storey car park (all the walls for the sound to bounce off I suppose). It seems to happen most when the engine isn't under acceleration ie foot off the gas approaching a junction etc.

Any ideas what it might be......fan belt etc. ?? The car is running as sweet as can be so I'm not too worried, just don't want to ignore it.

Thanks

Mark

I had this noise as you describe it on a Boxster S some time ago usually heard it in multi story car parks as an echo.

First thing to check is the exhaust heat shields, the holes and screws tend to corrode and slacken off, sometimes simply fixed by using new fasteners, a mate got his fixed under warranty. I found out later after I'd done mine myself.

Hi Mark
I had the same, Check for a loose Spark plug, a 10min fix but 1 week of head scratching[8|] worth a look

Hi Mark I had the same and it was traced to an exhaust mount and was fixed under warrantee.
I think that was the result, he found a broken exhaust bracket.... no idea on the final result though..

Indeed it was......no result just yet as my car's booked in for 8th Nov, no urgent panic over a broken exhaust bracket and a few other minor warranty issues. Looking forward to seeing what courtesy car I'll get though [;)]

Appologies for the incredibly tardy response, but I did have my car booked into OPC Hatfield for this and a couple of other issues as follows;

- Broken exhaust bracket
- Oil leak from gearbox
- Leak from coolant sump
- Horn only 1 tone

I had a nice Cayman for 4 days while they waited for the new exhaust tip to arrive......all sorted under warranty.

On the day of collection however, there appeared a engine warning light !!! A very nice Cayman S (7 speed PDK) for another 2 days ensued. Turns out I had 3 coilpacks and a lifter replaced under warranty too with return delivery to my home address.....all with the upmost courtesy.

Hats of to Hatfield from me.

Its nice to read that you were properly looked after, no one wants these faults in the forst place but sometimes how it is dealt with makes us even more loyal.
The one tone horn used to make me chuckle- makes the car sound a right weed..:ROFLMAO: as it was always my low tone that failed..

I may have this too, a sort of 'chitterchitter' when i go over a bump. Doesnt happen to start with sometimes, then begins to kick in later - expansion/heat?
