High Revs

New member
I picked up my first 912....a 1967 model last saturday, only to have the starting motor die on me after about an hour.

The RAC (Bless them) managed to mend it temporarily to get me home, but the revs are running at about 1800 at idle.

How can I reduce this down, as I'm a tad new to air-cooled engines.

Thanks...

Hi
just a quick question, what carbs are you running? Solex or Webbers?

It can be a number of resons why... but 1800 is far too high... mines happy around 900/1000

Give us some background info or images of the engine could help.

I've just sorted out all my linkages which has made such difference in response etc.

Got it sorted out for the time being.......

One thing you might be able to help me with....I'm completely new to Porsches, so forgive me if I sound a bit thick.

I noticed that my 1967 912 is sitting much lower at the back, than at the front....could this be the shocks? or do they do this naturally?

Thanks.....

Hi Sundance,
Welcome!
Sorry I have been away so missed your first posts.

The rear suspension (as the front) is adjustable, so could just need some re-adjustment to your desired height.
The 912 originally had quite a 'sit up and beg' look to differentiate it from the 911. There is no reason why you can't have a lower more 911 look if you want. If the back is sitting low I would however get it sorted as there may be a few reasons why it's sitting this way torsion bars, shocks etc..

Let us know if we can be of more help.
Cheers
Gavin

Hi Gavin...

Well I took the plunge, and bought me a 912 in London...I think you know the one...

It's great fun, but of course needs some work...it's almost as old as I am, but in better condition!

I am going away myself shortly... so I'm gonna leave it until I get back. It's very much a "long term" project...but I have to say, I've caught the Porsche bug already!

She is sitting a bit low on the back....but I'm taking her to a good Porsche mechanic soon to get a full report, and will gradually get her looking almost as good as that 912 in Spygame.

Talk soon....and thanks

Alex

Just another quick thing....I'm looking for an Owner's Manual for my 1967 912....

If anybody can help, I would be most grateful!
