There are several possibilites. The water pump could be damaged inside resulting in no flow, the head gasket may be leaking (presurrising the system the cyl block machining can result in a small step through using a smaller cutter on a CNC auto tool changer than the width of the block and over time this can result in aleak), there may be a slipped liner (some early cars had liners fitted by the manufacturer to repair manufacturing problems that later slipped - and this would result in head leaking). There could be many other probelsm as well.

Cheers baz,

The car performs very well under acceleration and has a good tick over, there is no oil in water or vice versa, the water temp never rises above 80 on the gauge. Also no loss off coolant etc etc... I appreciate your response to my plead. How would I check for any of the other symptoms you suggested?

regards Mike

Sounds like it wasn't bled properly, the air lock will blow the coolant out of the top.If its one of the other types of failure, try removing spark plugs and pressure test coolant, crank the car over,if the pressure drops, remove the fuse for the ignition coils first.(I have had one with the same fault, cause was air lock)
