Hike in extended warranty

I just got a reminder that my extended warranty is due next month, which I already knew, but what I didn't know was that the price has jumped from £740 to £895pa and I bet the expansion tank is still not covered?

Its now starting to move out of the "acceptable" cost range when you consider all the exclusions. Problem is I bet as soon as I don't have it.....!!!!!!

I bought mine the day before they hiked the price [8|] She's an '04 GT3 with just 7,000 miles on and I'm thinking, shall I bother to renew it later this year at £900 nearly? [:-]

You're right - it's the "......what if....?" that makes me think I should - then again I could throw caution to the wind, not renew it and modify her to my heart's content [:D]

Decisions, decisions......

Surely £900 for a warrantee on an 04 GT3 is very good value as a percentage of the car and as a percentage of the cost of a replacement engine should it go pop.

Today, I've purchased one for a 996 C2 and, of course, it is the same price - but it gives me peace of mind.

Hi,

Did not know that the standard OPC rate did not include VAT ... also I get a discount on OPC labour at Cambridge due to the age of the car [;)] so I havn't paid the official going rate before, apart from in Holland, where it was roughly £75 per hr.

Pete

Blimmey! Is it really £110 per/hr labour at OPCs? That's incredible! That's £2.17 a minute or (almost) 4 pence a second !!! (inc VAT) I'm in the wrong job!! I wonder how that compares to you're average BMW/Audi/Merc/VW? Does this mean that the mechanics will get paid more for working there too - as opposed to BMW, etc?
Now, where's that old Readers Digest "Become Your Own Mechanic" manual I used to chock my wheels with....?

Porsche fairly recently standardised the labour rates at £110 per hr for all OPC's

This was not so bad in London and the South East, as I think you will find this is comparable to other premium brands hourly rates (although I did not realise it was exclusive of VAT [])

I think people using Aberdeen OPC were not that happy at being stiffed for London rates though

Pete

I had a look at one of my invoices and i got charged £78.75 + Vat that included a 25% discount as my car is over 5 years old the same as Pete (burrow) paid which is not far off what i pay on my Clio run about, can not compare the service level, and never lend me a nice loan car foc. Don't think it is to bad?

Phil

I don't think that's correct about the labour rate being standard, UK wide.

I know Aberdeen OPC commented that we (the owners) will pay more for the servicing under the fixed menu pricing...but I was still under the impression that the normal hourly rate was as it was.
£90ish per hour rings a bell...

Might have got it wrong though...
