hill climbing/sprinting

Hello all

I am looking to go hill climbing/sprinting in my 912, has anyone done anything like this before and have any useful info?

Also anyone fancy doing a session next year, lets get a few of those 12's (or anyone else) turning wheels in anger[8D]

This year I think will be preparing the car + doing a few hill climb school days, looking forward to the fun side of light-hearted competition + coming last at lot.[:D]

Great idea! Go for it I say, should be fun as 912's I believe were well known for hill climbs when they were produced. I'm sure that the back of the orange book also shows performance data for cars fitted with a short ratio gearbox designed for hill climbing. Perhaps you could get your car regeared? Might not be much fun on the motorway though with short gears[:D]

On another note, I have just filled in loads of life insurance forms and they all ask questions about racing. Inform your insurers if you intend to do this.

Stuart might be up for a bit of that when his engine is fixed, sounds like top fun. I was thinking of it when I get my B... ah to dream...

Yer I might have a go as well ....do they do a down hill event my engine is pants at the mo........[:D][:D]

Hi Jon
I've done quite a bit in my previous car. Beware it is addictive and can become expensive. Having said that the guys who race for fun are a hoot. One thing to consider is that whilst you can bend it anywhere it tends to be the hillclimb courses that hold the most disasters.

As you live in the Midlands try the Introduction to Sprinting Sunday at Curborough. Look on the website, I think it is in the next couple of weeks. You get to go round the course with somone who races (it used to be free) and get lots of good advice about what you need to do.

It's your choice but I'm not convinced by the Schools. It's a good day out but I'm less convinced as to the 'bangs for bucks'. Better to hire Curborough for half a day and just get some track time in.

Another factor is that entry fees have risen dramatically. Consider £60 entry for Curborough for 4 runs at about 38 secs compared to the cost of a track day!

Good to see some interest;

Mark, loser buys the drinks[8D]

Come on Gav, use that AJP engine for what it was built for

Ian, I might pick you brains when the cars ready to go again, look like I will miss Curborough this time, but hiring the track sounds like a top idea.

Not sure what the current price is but it used to be about £130 for a half day. Its not as good, obviously, as a full circuit but you can 'explore the limits of your ego' as they say. It is limited to 5 cars but as many drivers as you wish. I'm up for it if anyone else is interested

Ian

Sounds great, how far ahead would we have to book + what happens with insurance?

Also, I know its short but how long is the course exactly?

Hi Jon
It's either 900m for short sprints of about 1500 for a two lapper (these are the sprint formats)

It's not really a balls out circuit, more about hamdling, but fairly typical of many sprint courses. If a few people are interested I can check out the current situation. The real beauty is that you can check out your handling and car control without having to worry about traffic and its also a very safe circuit in terms of potential damage. Third party insurance is included in the hire price (I think its £3m) and personal accident damage is up to you (personally I don't think it is worth it if you don't already have it in your policy

If you like I could meet up with you and we could nip over the fence for a look (yes really!) and then decide about booking

Ian

Sounds good, when is best for you to go and have a look?

I hope my car will be back together before brans hatch, so some time mid august for the event would be good.
