Hissing AirCon

My AirCon makes a hissing sound from time to time. Of course, when I got a mechanic have a listen, it wouldn't do it. Apart from carrying a mechanic around with me at all times, does anyone know how to cure this:

AirCon switched on (minimum temp, fan level 2), cruising along at 60ish, slow down to 50ish and then accelerate back up to 60ish. As the car accelerates, the aircon produces a hissing sound for a couple of seconds and then stops. Any ideas?

This is only an idea and is sort of linked to what happens in my car.

When the engine is under serious load, the aircon seems to go off and the when I ease off the loud pedal, it returns! My assumption has been that when you need power, the aircon is sacrificed for a few extra horses. The aircon otherwise works normally. (Do other cars do this??)

Anyway, the connection to your case is that possiby a 'vacuum device thingy' that does this may leaking????? Or this may be utter twaddle and I need to get my aircon looked at as well!!

And its not the hissing sigh sort of noise that all aircons do from time to time ?

Just got mine back from the garage, so I listened to the a/c on the way home (no radio security card, so had to do something !). Mine 'sighs' every so often, and, I believe, always has.

This makes me feel a bit better but I have to say that I've not noticed it before. Its only started happening in the last month and the thing that brought it to my attention was the fcat that it only happens when I put my put down; it seemed like it was linked to the accelerator pedal or turbo in some way.

Well it is summer ...... cheers, Maurice [:)]

How did I know someone was going to say that? Thanks Maurice! [:D]

Just for the record, it wasn't doing it last summer...

Interesting point re:disabling the aircon load under full throttle. Is this same function supposed to cut in when the car is started? I ask because a friend's 993 does not start with the air con turned on.

Air conditioning on route to South of France (this week) was brilliant and my wife and I were complimenting on how efficient it was on an almost minimal setting in 30C! Having covered approx 500 miles non stop, and sighing with relief at the first stop off, the ignition was switched off, but instead of a quick kill on the engine, it rattled for a few seconds as if some tin cans have found there way into the engine compartment. With sweat now beginning to take hold, I switched the air con off, and cranked the engine. No rattle! When we started the car again from cold, even with the air con switched on, this noise had disappeared. But like bad things do, it came back now and again to irritate and annoy us, but all things said the air con with or without the noise, it still worked efficiently.

Anybody else experienced this sort of rattle?
