Hissing from front passenger side

My 2005, C2 Tip has developed a hissing noise coming from the front of the car. Gets worse when car is parked/idiles for a period and goes away when car has moved a slight distance.

Any ideas what this could be?

Leak in the aircon system maybe? The rads at the front are very vulnerable. Regards, Clive.

I had this when a condenser leaked (as Clive said). Now the other one has holed and hissing is back! Grrr! Does your noise stop if your turn off the a/c? To prove it, press switch as soon as the hissing starts.

Thanks, noise seems to be coming from the condenser. Sounds like either the gas escaping or running through the condenser. No apparent leaks though. Air Con working normally, but noise goes when the air con is still on but fan is down to zero. As soon as fan speed is increased noise reappears. Will check for air con level before looking at condenser replacement

Sounds like you may be low on refrigerant in you air con system. The system can still work but now where near as efficiently if this the case.

I had a whistling noise inside the car which disappeared when the fan was turned off a bit of a grumble generally as well with it on. I had an Air Con specialist come out to me to do both the 997 and my Golf. He emptied the systems pressure tested and refilled and the noises in the 997 are now gone and the Golf now works beautifully again - previously the 997 was working OK and Golf was failing. If you are in the Swindon area I would highly recommend John. His website is v informative and even has a section for classics and Porsche. Radiator replacement half price and he does more difficult jobs for my local OPC so I understand. Website should you need it: http://www.autoclimatecontrol.co.uk Even if you don't have a look at the site it put me straight on a number of things A/C! Hope your problem is fixed.

Air Con topped back up. Hissing noise has now gone. Possible leak in air con line, when car was jacked up!
