Historic car road tax

Has anyone noticed tucked away in the Chancellors Budget that the Road Tax free dates have been changed by one year from
31st December 1972 to 1st January 1974
so now all pre impact bumper 911's will have tax free status.
The period will also encompass the first of the Impact Bumper cars as well. All 2.7 models sold before 1st jan 1974 will also be within the Tax Free period.
It is not quite what we wanted ie. the rolling 25 year tax free period, but it is a start in the right direction.
We offer a welcome to the 1973 1/2 cars to the Tax Free Club. (We will all probably pay for it in fuel duty in the long run)

I wonder why it has been moved one year. Seems a strange thing to spend legislative time on. If it was done as a rolling 40 year limit then fair enough but a one off move of one year!

Ian.

My guess is that they will eventually announce that they will continue it on a rolling 40 year basis.
Anyway, I am happy with them adding the extra year, as from next April my car will qualify for the exemption.

Me too, Philip -- I missed out like yourself, by a matter of days ! Think what we would have saved. Can't tell from your shot --
looks like a Targa with the roof off, also silver, like mine.

If the original promise of a rolling 25 year period had been adhered to, I would have been free from next year. As it is, IF the rolling 40 year period is implemented, I'm free from 2029 - yipee...[:D]

You can blame Gordon Brown, he scrapped the rolling 25 year in his first Budget after Blair got into power.
