Historic race cars

I see FIA have defined historic as cars upto and including 1990, the next decade not being considered for 10 years.

I guess this means that early cups squeeze in, but RS/NGTs are going to have to wait.

Will be interesting to see what else this changes for a series perspective. We are getting closer though.

Mr. Schmitz wrote in his ad for a restored (91 though) Cup car that once they will be eligibile for historic racing you won´t be able to buy one of them anymore.
I think he´s right - these somehow bulletproof cars will be perfect for the track. Let´s see if the real ones will be used - or copies. Anyway, a series might recall the early Carrera Cup days and it will probably be started in England....

What does that mean for future prices? Des?

The type approval will be for Cups conforming to the 1990 spec. So I think later 964 Cups will therefore be eligible as long as they are not massively disimilar. That's how the FIA HTPs work for now...

There are 3 problems with this though:

Firstly the FIA HTP (Historic Technical Passport) that you'll need is now a rip-off, needing renewing at large cost every so often and if the car changes owner, it used to be for the car for life.

Secondly, no matter if they allow later cars into the FIA HTP system, events won't necessarily have a class for them. All they do is upset their current clients because newer faster cars are killing them.

Thirdly, the Cups didn't really race in any prestigious events when new other than the Cup series. You aren't going to get an entry to the Le Mans Classic, or the Tour Auto or the Mille Miglia which are the events that add value to a historic car.

So I don't think this is going to be a massive value add, unless Peter Auto add a category for them in the CER or something which might work in their favour slightly.

All IMHO of course...

Apart from the fact that the 964RS was entered into LeMans......

The cup cars/ NGTs werent massively quick in their day....I think they'll find a space in a few years in CER, or similar. FIA papers are the same whatever the age of car, so that doesnt worry me too much. Its the start of something very fun, I think.

I hope you are right about allowing in 93 RSs on the back of a 90 cup being eligible. Fingers crossed.
