History of 993?

A friend of mine is very keen on finding a good 993. He has found a car at Dick Lovett with a hole in its history during storage and asked that I post this message to see if anyone could help.

Thanks in advance for any help.

"If anyone has any information on the history of a Polar Silver 993 Carrera 2S, reg P832VUH, specifically for a period between 2003 and 2008 when it may have been "in storage", please can you email rogerhills@aol.com. It is a car I am trying to buy, but there is a large gap in the history which Dick Lovett do not seem interested in filling. Any help appreciated, particularly if you know where it was stored. Thanks in advance. Roger Hills."

I have of course told him he should be buying a more modern water cooled car but he seems strangely attracted to the 993.[;)]

Francis, I have just advertised my 993 which I've owned for the last 6 years and has a full history, it's in the for sale section. Please feel free to have a look and make contact if you wish so.

Regards

Mike

if you cannot fill the hole i would be very careful-there are good cars at very reasonable prices(like the one i have just purchased)with history files an inch thick....

One car I looked at last year also had a massive 3 year gap in its service history. My inquiries concluded that the owner had simply left it alone in a London lock-up garage, perhaps whilst abroad. Worse, I was told that it was by no means a rare occurrence for some clueless 'city boy' to buy a Porsche status symbol, get bored and 'forget about it' for a long period. If you can't get solid reassurance that it was decommissioned, correctly stored and recommissioned then I'd pass on; there are plenty of owners out there who do have at least some idea how to look after a car properly.

I think you just have to take a view on the individual situation. My 993 (shortly to be p/xed back to the supplying dealer)'s last owner did most of the routine servicing himself over 8 years of ownership, and only 5k miles, so there is an 8 year gap between service stamps, but only 5k miles. The car is in fabulous condition, and not worth any less in my, or the dealer's, views as a result.

Your car sounds like it was meticulously maintained by an enthusiastic owner as opposed to being stored up for 5 years with no servicing - I know which one I would prefer

I tend to agree with all of this - you have to look at the individual case. But not allow yourself to be influenced by what a seller says (without hard evidence).

An owner who has done all the maintenance themselves is really good but even they will have receipts for items they have used for the service, MOTs, etc.
