Hit Up The aRSe !

Some kind woman in a Silver Fiesta very kindly ran into the back of me this afternoon. I was looking for a turning on the right whilst driving down a country lane, so was driving slowly (unusual for me, perhaps) and when I saw my turn I indicated and then braked, ready to turn. She had been catching me up rapidly, did not see me and so ploughed into the back of me. I heard her skidding and even tried to accelerate forward to get out of her way, but no use. Thud.

The question I have is "What type of damage is likely to have happenned?"

Visibly the exhaust tail pipe has been pushed in, the middle section between the two side panels looks as though it has been pushed in a but and I think the engine cover may well have been set out of centre (it is flush on the right and high on the left).

My local indie said that it could have damaged the suspension if it has pushed it in too far and then suggested a paintshop, so I am taking it to Reynolds of Rushock in the morning for a quote.

Anyone any idea of potention issues and costs ?

Cheers
Trevor

Sorry to here about the accident, they shouldnt be allowed out unsupervised, must have been on the phone or doing her hair not to have seen you!! and I'm sure it will have damaged those rear pink lenses at the back it has probably damaged those as well also a good excuse for insisting on a 4 wheel alignment.

The engine cover is adjustable at the hinges so may not be damaged.

Bad luck, sympathies ...........................the thing u want to have a good look at is has it 'kinked ' rear wings under qtr windows ....wud not be a good sign .........sounds like she got u square on , the aluminium girder behind the pu can absorb a surprising amt
hope turns out ok

Thanks for the comments guys. You have restored my faith in the club.
Rear lenses look OK, if a couple of mm out of place.
Def go for 4 wheel alignment.
Good to hear about engine cover, sounds like that can be solved.
Could not see any kinks under rear 1/4 windows. I gave car a good clean (it had only been detailed last week prior to a long weekend at the Ring) and saw no worrying signs.

Will let you know after my visit to Reynolds.
Cheers

Trevor, best of luck. Your ok, the car is insured and will be ok, and you will forget about it in due course.

Sincerely

Jeff

Check the rear suspension mounts for kinking, I personally would be looking to have it jigged, if it were my car. My reasons are I would want to know 100% that I had no alignment issues, regardless of speed.....

ujust my tuppeth worth.

Kip.

Sorry to hear that Trevor. Something i have experienced, is that you can be going along on yout merry way and some a*se hole just has to catch you up. Porsche are like magnets, other drivers just have to either be up yer a*se or have got to try and overtake you. Dosey bird was that hypnotised in catching you up didn't realise you had yer foot on the break ..... then oops she's trying to climb into yer engine bay.
Make sure you go to a reputable and experience 964 Porsche repairer

Sure you will get it sorted ...[;)]

Took car to Reynolds this morning (8am!!) and they (thankfully) agreed that it was only a minor shunt. Probably helped by the fact that I had accelerated forward when I heard the skidding behind me.

The 3 light and glass/plastic sections all need changing as well as the central panel, plus a bit of paint to make it all match again. No crumpling, no bends, no suspension damage. A quote for about £1200 is on the way.

I then called the driver of the Fiesta. I let her know that I did not think she would want to settle it without her insurance company and that an estimate for about £1200 was on the way. She interrupted to let me know she was still shaken, her kids were upset and that she had not slept all night. I suggested she speak to her insurance company only to be interrupted again by her saying "yes" and then putting the phone down in tears.

I thought the accident was her fault! Perhaps I am mistaken, perhaps not. You make up your own minds how I feel. Now just got to wait 4 weeks to be fitted in for the work and hope that all is settled without fuss.

Appreciate the comments and support. I agree with the moral "don't let the buggers catch you up". So much for taking my time and driving within the speed limits through rural villages. Should have stuck to the speeds we came back from the Ring at last week. She would never have seen me then. Never mind.

Very pleased that its mostly cosmetic Trevor. [;)] Could have been a lot worse, if thats any comfort!. 8am hey, that would have been me. Would just want know how bad the damage was, with everything crossed of course. Bet that was a huge relief when they finally told you the outcome. Keep smiling you'll soon be back on the road .......

Trevor, very sorry to hear about the shunt, I am sure you are but wait until you hear from her insurance company, as this is when the lies start, but at least you hit up the arse so it should be open & shut.

But insurance companies will try on fingers crossed for you[;)]

Had a call from Direct Line. Will settle the claim against our verbal confirmation of amount due and pay for a hire car if required. I will have to see what else needs to be included whilst they are in generous mood. Anyone think a turbo or retro fit air con would be acceptable? (Don't worry, just joking, I am simply pleased they are paying!)

Hello Trevor,

You may have used Reynolds of Rushock before, but if not, perhaps it will help you to hear that I had my 993 front end painted by them this year following hitting part of lorry driveshaft coupling bouncing across the M42, corrosion around windscreen aperture and stone chips etc. Work took longer than originally estimated but results were superb, as good as new.

Hope all goes well.

Hi Tudorbroach

Unfortunately I have used them before and I agree that they are very good on quality, if sometimes a little out with their time estimates. At least the insurance will be paying for a hire car. I doubt this will take the 10-12 weeks my car was off the road last time (had to wait for parts from Germany and for them to fit it in!)

Still smiling. At least I am in Mauritius for 2 weeks of the 4 I have to wait for it to be taken in for the work. I know it is tough, but someone had to do it!

Cheers
Trevor
