Homelink?

Anyone on here got it? I was browsing through the manual of my car and noticed a section on Homelink.

I really like the idea of the car learning the remote control frequency of my gate so I don't have to carry around a huge clicker everytime I go out. Although I was a little sceptical as to just how flexible the unit is and whether the OPC would guarantee my frequency could be learnt prior to placing an order.

I can't help with the Homelink, but what I did was to hide the garage door remote in the centre console, and connect it to a Targa roof blind switch in one of the spare switch slots. I appreciate it might not be appropriate for the 987.

Yes, I specified Homelink when I ordered my car.

I found it very easy to set up using the remote for my garage door opener.

There are a total of three buttons that can be programed to operate anything such as gates and house lights.

It's great just pushing a button next to the rear-view mirror instead of fumbling for a remote control!

Not sure if the system can be retro-fitted.

As an aside to this, I believe, from several reliable sources, that some 'garage door opening devices' will blind laser speed cameras! AND you can't get done for it because it's a feature of the car!

I moved house after taking delivery of my 987 and asked the East London OPC about retrofit of Homelink but despite chasing on three or four occasions, never had a reply.....

[FONT=verdana, geneva"]I have Homelink on my 987 and it works a treat. Programming it took me no more than a couple of minutes, and its range is better than the original garage door control. Retrofitting one could be tricky because of the factory installed position of the emitter, but it may be possible to mount it somewhere more easily accessible.

When I recently had an Origin b2 camera locator fitted to my wife's car, the BMW technician told me that the emitter diffuses laser transmissions from speed cameras and cannot be challenged. He fits them to order, with a hidden switch to keep it working all the time! However, I suspect that the Road Safety Act 2006 (effective from tomorrow?) may plug that loophole.
