Hood and Glass window replacement

Hello all,
Porsche GB virgin here!
I am after a bit of advice. I have a Boxster 3.2S, 2001. It currently has a plastic rear window. The problem is that due to my heavy hand I have created a slit in the window. I am looking to replace the hood and replace the plastic with a glasss heated window. I dont know a lot about this sort of thing as I only bought the car 4 weeks ago. Is there anywhere around Swindon, apart from porsche who would fit a new hood for me? Where would be the best place to get a hood from? I have been looking at BAS who charge £500 for hood and window. How much do you think fitting would be? Do the mechanics of the roof stay the same for the new glass windon? Sorry about all the questions but I dont want to spend the earth but need it done. Any help would be much appreciated.

Use the search facility on this site and you'll find lots of info re screen and hood replacement on Boxsters - did the same myself a few weeks ago when I contemplated changing my 968 for a 986 I'd seen in Whitstable.

One thing I had not considered - I believe that the glass rear screen is smaller than the plastic one, so hood up the rearward view is more restricted. Don't know how badly or if it's a real problem.

BTW, why did you post this in the 968 forum - I think you'll find your car is a 986, but the forum / register is called Boxster!

We've got a stickied thread in the Boxster area on this topic.

For what it's worth I have the BAS one - and it is great!
Looks like OEM and the window does not restrict visibility to any great degree.

They are just along the M4 from you as well...

I got BAS to fit it - at Cardiff.
Only took a couple of hours.

Or, they do supply instructions if you want to do it yourself.

I'm afraid I don't know offhand of anyone in Swindon.

Unfortunately mine was not a standard fitment - It was replaced because someone who's profession is "thief" decided to slash their way through my roof in order to see if there was anything they could steal inside.
They cut through the tension strap and lining too, so there was a lot more work and £100(s) more to add to the bill for the extra parts from Porsche.
It still only took a couple of hours to fit the lot though!

I can't see a quote for fitting on the site ( http://www.car-hood.co.uk/ ) but I'm sure they will quote if you call or email.
I'm assuming they still fit as well as sell them, but if not I'm sure they will recommend someone [:)]

Note to the 968 moderator - you'll probably want to move this to "Boxster"! [:D]
