Hood down

Just a quick question - during this unseasonably nice weather Ive had the roof down (as I expect everyone on the forum to have had too[:)] ). Whilst its been so warm, Ive driven to work (giving myself a frozen scalp at 6am), left the roof down during the day then drove home with the roof off and put it to bed in the garage with the roof down. Keeping the roof down for a few days isnt going to knacker anything up is it?

PS I did the old karate chop on the plastic window to make sure it folded correctly when it went down.

You need to make sure that it is free of dust, dirt etc, before putting it down, otherwise you'll end up with scuff marks along the folds of the cloth.

Leaving the hood down for 6+ months must be OK because all the lightweights who have to have a hard top fitted to there drop top [:D] seem to survive with no issues

Personally I have my roof down far more than its up (car only comes out to play on dry days but in all seasons)[8D]

Porsche suppy a "fleece" (in reality a piece of felt-like material) for putting over the plastic window when folding for extended periods. This is to prevent the marring John mentions.

The fleece only protects the plastic screen - I'm talking about the black stuff!

So Robert you're having trouble getting it up? [:D]

On serious note it was the fact that I ran my car for it's first winter with the hardtop on without having ensured that the hood was spotless that made my hood look so 'lived in'.

So you were - I miss-read it [&:]

The fleece is still a good idea though. I used it a lot even though I had no hardtop, and the plastic was like new for 7 years

Just a tale of caution that may be worth considering gents.

My wife had a BMW Z4 until recently and it was insured with Shielas Wheels.

They spcecifically state in their policy that the car is NOT insured if left unattended with the rag top down. May be worth checking with your own company.

My SAGA policy is the same - they state that the car is "technically insecure" and would probably NOT pay out on any claim.

Food for thought.

I bought a wooly bobble hat, Does the job but I might have to take the bobble off as it flaps around at speed.
