Hood mechanism covers for 987 2

Could anyone show me the correct orientation and how to fit these plastic covers, noticed both sides loose when I was giving the hood bay a spring clean, left side has deformed a bit, i assume to being squashed as the hood retracts, indeed are they necessary ?

I know what you mean, they seem a real after thought.

Mine just about locate to the hood mechanism, but I'm never sure they stay in pace during roof operation. I would not discard them, Porsche only put them there for a real purpose, but I think it is simply 'water-management' to keep excess rain of the hood arms/pivots.

There are no obvious clip positions or fixings, they simply hook to position. It is a case of patiently trying different positions to find the right one. Several shields on the 987.2 are like this, the front boot side trims are weak clips and Velcro...

I'll take left and right sides of my 2009/2.9 tomorrow morning once I've charged the battery as it is very low today, may not activate the hood As it stands this evening.

Roof working!

interestingly, the rhs of mine had dropped off and was crushed by the mechanism, just shows how 'iffy' these are.

Pictures below are of the LHS. The protruding tab is wedged between the underside of the boot panel and the cast arm (the one with a zig-zag ribbing).
The plastic panel is then 'clipped' just about to the 'zig-zag ribbed arm and the steel pressed arm alongside it using no more than the tab to the top of the arm and the hook clip snaps under the cast arm.
Really tricky to photograph, everything is black.
And that's it, nothing more used to retain these plastic shields.
In the 2 pictures the roof is about 1/3 of the way to opening.
Hopes this helps.
