HOOD RESTORER

I have used Renovo to restore a 911 cab roof but was wondering if there is a better product available these days

Not so sure about restorer but when I got my Boxster home the first thing I did was cover the soft top with Fabsil Gold, it has made the small amount of "fold marks" (6 years old) dissappear and when it rains the beading on the roof is quite amazing, even on a dewy moring there is beading present.

Great stuff not only for camping [:)]

Sounds interesting my hood is pretty good and i thought do it now while its ok rather than wait until it gets to bad

Whenever I see this sort of question from a ragtop owners on one of the 4 car forums I frequent, the replies split pretty evenly between Renovo and Autoglym. I used Renovo 5 years ago when I first got my 968 cab - cleaner, then colourant then proofer - and it still looks pretty good although the blue has faded a little now. I did top up the waterproofing last September for our 19 day trip to Spain and France, but have never had any water leakage and, on the odd occasion when the roof gets wet, it still beads very well.

I have only used Renovo on my 3.2 cab which was blue quite happy with the the results but that was approx 10 years ago perhaps someone who has used autoglym could post with there opinion

I have only used renovo but that was a few years ago. Not had to recolour yet( but may have to ??) I have however reproofed. At the suggestion of another forum member I used Fabsil Gold and have to say it is amazing stuff. Water beads off as good as the paint, and a lot cheaper than the specialist automotive product. Won't use anything else now ??

Geoff/Bob, if you do decide to re-colour (personal experience with Renovo) be aware that the colourant is thinner than water, gets everywhere, is easy to wipe off paintwork etc when wet but a PITA once it dries! Mask up really well around windows, down the sides of the car, watch out for drainage channels around the boot lid. Obviously you need to clean the roof first and let it dry thoroughly, and once you have applied the colourant DO NOT fold the roof for at least 24 hours or you'll get whitish fold marks (ask me how I know!!).
