New Audi TTS to take on Porsche

[FONT=verdana,geneva"]Audi has tried to banish the hairdresser image of its TT for good by launching the most performance-focused version to date - the TTS. [FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]
The car has Audi's magnetic ride system as standard and 270bhp squeezed out of its 2.0-litre Turbo FSI petrol engine.
The result is 0-62mph in 5.4 seconds for the manual coupe and 5.6 seconds for the roadster, with both being limited to a 155mph top speed.

The car has been unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show and the steering, suspension and brakes are said to have all been revised.

With the optional S tronic dual-clutch automatic transmission acceleration times are reduced by a further two-tenths of a second in both the Coupé and Roadster.

There are deeper side skirts and special 18" alloys, with 19" rims an option.

There is a revised rear bumper and, for the first time in a TT, four tailpipes sticking out of an extended diffuser.

The car will be out in the UK mid-2008 and it should have its sights firmly set on Porsche's Cayman.
 
So it seems that our Porsches are becoming the Aunty Rover of The Empire[:eek:]
How long will it be before you can buy aftermarket fairy lights for your Nova?

If you are talking original Mk1 TT then totally agree. However the curent TT, not driven by me, is meant to be a pretty good sports car unlike the original effort.
 
talking about the mk 2 i`m afraid-neither linda or i thought ir was a patch on the cayman s
not a bad car ,just not in the same league as the 987 coupe[:D]

If you are talking original Mk1 TT then totally agree. However the curent TT, not driven by me, is meant to be a pretty good sports car unlike the original effort.

I'm sure that everyone who bought the first TT thought it a pretty good sports car. A lot of people bought them for not much less than a 2.7. I've always wondered why but I suppose they bought a TT for the same reason I bought my Boxster it's what I wanted.

The Boxster has been almost universally acclaimed as the "best" for the last 10 years but in that time BMW, Audi, Mercedes and Honda have all had people buying their offerings.
 
There are plenty of 300+bhp 1.8TTs of the old shape - they were never any competition - a bit more uumphh in a striaght line doesn't make a Porsche beater !

If your selection criteria are style, build quality, "feel good" factor, choice of options, reliability, customer service etc etc then you can't do much better than a TT. People posting on here will always place the driving experience of the Porker as the defining point, but for most people, the TTS is all they could want.

If your selection criteria are style, build quality, "feel good" factor, choice of options, reliability, customer service etc etc then you can't do much better than a TT. People posting on here will always place the driving experience of the Porker as the defining point, but for most people, the TTS is all they could want.

For what it is worth, it's not about how the car performs on the limit - it's how it drives every day, everywhere. The TT didn't even enter the same arena as the Cayman for me. For that matter, neither did the Z4M Coupe or any number of other cars.

Good thing everyone is different and each to their own [:)]

oh that i could still be satisfied by a TT,my bank manager would be a happy man[:D]
sadly.the reality is it just didnt make the grade(even for linda!!)on build quality.cabin space...even before getting to the "driving experience"[:D]
