Horn issues

Hmmmm, fitted a 2nd hand CS steering wheel and for some reason the horn keeps sounding when I turn the wheel, generally to the right but occasionally left. Have soldered the wire to the clip on the round plastic contact and covered it with heat shrink so that's good. Cleaned the contact on the steering column too whilst I'm at it.

Needless to say I'm not driving v far this morning!

Any ideas?

Cheers all

I'd steer clear of turning right[:D]-must be something not sitting flat or fully pressed onto the retaining buttons,/.

The horn push contact on the cs wheel can be adjusted. I think there are 2 or 3 screw adjusters for horn push travel. Check all is well there!

So had another play about this avo. Checked the adjuster screws to release the horn push contact slightly. Still no better (horn still sounding off), so disconnected the wire from the horn contact. Still the horn sounds! Odd indeed. I was able to pull the wire whilst not connected to the horn pad and the horn was still sounding off, and I could also hear the relay clicking.[8|] When I took the wheel off again the wire had been wrapped round the horn canceller as we'll so it seems the horn canceller wasn't turning at the same time as the wheel. Think it's either the wire/horn canceller or relay, leaning toward the wire/horn canceller. Relay looked ok when I checked it. But the horn shouldn't sound if the wire isn't connected to the horn push contact and I give it gentle tug unless somewhere it's creating a circuit somehow? Horn contact plate cleaned and ok.

Am no expert (just in case you didn't realise) but it does all work as it should too [:D]

It will be the flappy metal contact that makes contact with the back of the boss. It will be bent in such a way it is touching the inner and outer ring on the rear of the boss, sporadically through moving the wheel, completing horn circuit, horning away pressless!. Take the wheel off and bend the L shaped connector flat, then bend the outer edge of it outwards so only the end of the L comes in contact with the rear of the boss. I'll eat my hat if this doesn't solve it!

Cheers

Good call, have resoldered the wire to the spade that's bent through the contact ring, put double lengths of heatshrink on top as well, should insulate it well enough, however I the noticed there should be three screws to connect the contact ring to the boss, so even when I had it fitted it was sliding round when the wheel turned.[:D] reckon that'll solve it.

Any ideas on size of said screw? Will give it a google anyway.
