Horn

devans

It never rains it pours. I think I've said this before. Just posted that my door lock is causing a problem and then I find problems with my horn.
The horn seemed to be very sensitive and started to go off AT A LOW PITCH when breaking, turning or going over bumps. However, this was only over a few days. I tested it driving today and the horn went off but wasn't very loud. After one or two more honks it died completely. I can still hear it clicking when driving but no sound.
Can anyone help resolve this as with a little guidance I feel sure it will be within my DIY ability.....fingers crossed.

Could be the insulation grommets on the steering wheel airbag frame. It is quite common for them to split, earthing out the frame, and making the horn beep. For some reason, it usually happens when braking. There are many threads on RennTech.org about it.

Edit: Here's one to get you started: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php/topic/1728-horn-problem/

Just searched some other sites and looks like.

Disconnect battery -ve terminal first
Remove two Torx screws
Lift out air bag section
Disconnect wiring on back of air bag
Renew rubber bearings/ washers.

Before I attempt am I missing anything? I'm assuming Porsche do the rubber parts.

You aren't missing anything, but Porsche only sell the complete frame.

Sorry - switch on ignition before disconnecting battery to stop the alarm siren from going off.
