Hose advice needed please

Hi everyone, hope you have been enjoying the good weather we have had! Last weekend couldn't have been better for enjoying an old Porsche... unfortunately in an effort to sort a little problem I created one big one, which has left mine undrivable.

Now bear with me...
The hose which I think returns automatic transmission fluid to the gearbox from the radiator started to leak. In an effort to sort the problem I tried all sorts but it ended in me cutting the hose too short and now it won't reach, nice work I hear you say... I know.

I'm trying to buy a replacement hose but the only part I can find doesn't look like the correct one.

The part number is - 944 307 011 01

Trouble is mine is just the rubber hose and a threaded end, it attaches to a metal hose running alongside the engine with a jubilee clip. The part I have found seems to be crimped to the metal hose.

Any help would be amazing and I probably deserve a little abuse for cutting the hose too short in the first place! [:D]

Sorry I should add its a 1989 2.7.

Can you fabricate a small extension? Years ago I extended a water hose by inserting some copper pipe into a small bit of hose, thus producing a 'male' end to go into the 'female' remains of your shortened hose.

Call your local Pirtek depot - http://www.pirtek.co.uk/

They will be able to despatch a man in a van that can make up any hose to any length with any fitting at either end (and at a very reasonable price too).

That was my thinking, couldn't find anything in my workshop but a quick search on eBay found these bits.

Will that hose take the pressure and is there any reason it might not be compatible with the ATF?

If anyone knows what the genuine part is I would rather fit that, but if I cant find it this seems like a good option.

I didn't think of Pirtek, I think we have used them for farm machinery. I'll give them a ring in the morning!

Ollie,
I too have a 1989 2.7 automatic.
Whilst the PET diagrams do show a crimped end on your quoted return hose my car has a jubilee clip on the end. New metal pipes were fitted by an independent specialist to solve a leak after the original pipes were disturbed - so it would appear that a jubilee clip is an acceptable solution.

Fuel hose will do the job and as Mike says, a jubilee clip and a new length of hose will more than do, I've done the same repair on a 924S auto, the fluid isn't under anywhere near the pressure that fuel is, those pipes just pump it to the rad to the trans fluid cooler.

Obviously you can get Pirtek out to make up a crimped replacement with the right fittings, upto you, just make sure you're fluid is topped up properly before running the car again [;)]
