Hot engine start up

When I've done 35+ miles and leave the car for a few minutes, it won't fire. When the engine cools down it's fine.

Been like that for a while. I had the starter motor replaced but that hasn't cured it. It starts if I give the throttle a bit of welly, so I'm suspecting something on the fuel side.

Any ideas?

Likely to be a sensor failure. Either engine temp or intake temp sensors but you need a Bosch hammer to be sure.

Good luck

Worth getting the fuel pressure checked and using a hammer or the like to confirm cylinder head temp sensor and throttle position sensor are providing sensible values.

sounds like it could be the idle control valve sticking when hot or the engine temperature sensor faulty ? or maybe the fuel pressure valve ?

Johnny, mine used to do the same but it has been OK for some while. I still have a sense of worry though as I return to the car after filling up with fuel!

I was pointed towards the mass air flow sensor (quite an easy check to do apparently) and JZ did a full diagnostic on the car for me, but found nothing which was rather disappointing. Their advice was to wait until the problem got worse and it would then show up on a diagnostic .... but the problem appears to have gone away.

Perhaps all you need to do is to run a diagnostic!?!

Cheers for the idears.

9M run a check on it as soon as they see it (which is fairly regularly). It's had mass flow and crank sensors replaced in the last 18 months. I;ll mention it to Robin on 26th April. Hopefully I won't be in before then
